Actually you don't have to go to the gym to get bigger. A study was done with I think 20-30 males who were between the ages of 18-25 who had atleast one year of resistance based training under there belt. They were given 600mg of PHARMACEUTICAL grade Testosterone a week and was told NOT to workout for 5 months. They kept diet logs.
Results, were that they gained an AVERAGE of 18lbs of lean muscle and lost 1-2 lbs of body fat. This was measured using a dexton or dexto scanner (don't know what that is). So water and fat weren't measured. They ate an average of 125g of protein a day.
I am not sure how to read your understanding of building muscle per your post above... 18lbs of lean muscle in 5 months in trained patients that did not even train in these 5 months? Either they were diagnosed with anorexia and cured or you mistake lean muscle with lbm which includes glycogen. Link to study if you have it stored...
