It’s beyond me. I was doubtful at first but I logged in to my wallet and sure enough there was $30 taken out on Aug 9th.

Bread crumbs or process of elimination.

If your email address is the same as your handle here, once he obtained your password from PPLs website, the hacker could have gone through your posts looking for any talk about BTC wallets.

Once he finds what he needs, he tests the email address and hacked password on that wallet, and if it is the same, he's in and can do whatever he wants.

He could have also downloaded all of the most commonly used wallets. Then all he has to do is try the email address and password on each one until he finds the correct wallet.
