Thoughts on Steroids (And Non-Legal Enhancers) in Martial Arts.

These traditionalists live in a culture that knows nothing of steroids, and can be just as bad as a teen taking them in my opinion. Additionally, such guys are simple black belts and are blinded by the false sense of security the belt provides. But that my .02.

Read what you wrote. "These traditionalists......additionally, such guys are simple blackbelts". So as far as you referring to Mcdojo simple blackbelts, as you stated in your second post, well, forgive me for not knowing what you were implying when you stated something completely different.

Why would you ask for opinions, and admit that you thought they would be interesting, and then get all sore in the ass when somebody has an opinion which differs from yours? Re-read what I wrote about Jeet Kune Do and Bruce Lee. There was no disrespect, merely the opinion that he wouldn't be able to compete with a top-level mixed martial artist.

Krav Maga is a great style because of its real-world effectiveness and applicability to life-and-death combat. But Krav Maga has a basic premise which excludes it from wholly being used in MMA, and that is to use whatever weapons are available, whether it be your M-4 or a big stick or a jagged rock. Can Krav Maga techniques be used in the cage? Absolutely. Would you be better off dedicating your time to Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, judo, or even sambo? Absolutely. All this is assuming you are training to fight in an MMA bout.

And to retort to your "every serious martial artist or cage fighter should know of" the whole Mcdojo thing, I find it hilarious. Who cares? If we had a guy in the gym who had a lot of talent and was ready for his first fight, but lacked the confidence and serenity that comes with your first couple wins, who better for him to fight than a wannabe chump from one of your Mcdojos? There are always going to be pretenders and delusional "tough-guys" who help start the career of future talents. And somebody who is serious about a fighting career will be able to distinguish between a legit gym and one of the money-makers.

Did you miss the part about me getting my brown-belt from a Gracie school? I don't need the history of the Gracie family, and I'm not sure why you even included it other than to try to establish that you know more about jiu-jitsu than me. By the way, the "middle brother" that you couldn't remember the name of, is Rickson Gracie, and he is undefeated in over 400 jiu-jitsu matches against the best in the world. However, Royce was picked for the UFC because his brothers were fighting in other no-holds barred competitions already. Rickson, to my knowledge, has never had an interest in any other fighting competition besides jiu-jitsu.

Next time you ask for opinions, don't act so indignant when somebody has a strong one. And next time you start a thread, don't assume that you don't have to clarify ambiguous statements and questions. And don't even start to think that I'm one of those pathetic internet tough-guys, because anybody who has read my other posts knows that is not my M.O.

Hey musulman, do steroids give you better hand-eye coordination? Do they make your neurons fire faster and thereby your reflexes sharper? Do they make your punches straighter or your hips turn through a roundhouse? Steroids do not make fighters out of wannabes, they do not make skilled strikers out of bar-room brawlers, and they certainly do not make champions out of chumps. They merely take a fighter, no matter what skill set, and make him stronger. Not everyone who takes steroids in MMA is trying to compensate for insecurites, just as not everyone buggers somebody is gay....... or are they?

Modern warfare is not a good example - use of chemical weapons, atom bombs etc etc i agree. It was a bad example.

The point is that training in the mountains or high altitude has been known since ancient times of being a builder of good health and robustness. Just like push ups and free hand squats have been known since ancient times of being good for the body and building power. Eating good natural food is known since long ago to be conducive to good health. Not worrying or stressing is conducive to good health this is known. So practicing all this, living a healthy life to your advantage is fine, using natural resources, aids is okay. Doing something artificial to be something you are not is wrong. Leading me to state that - If you got to take steroids to fight - you in the wrong sport.

For the record i think fedor may take steroids, since most of the competition takes them many feel the need to take them to even the playing field. However fedor would be top dog, with or without. He is a natural. God made him for this field. Now if someone wants to be like fedor and clearly is not made for it, takes steroids to be able to compete or keep up or to become a fighter. He is in the wrong sport. Al the will in the world don't amount to nothing if you are not meant to be. Just be content with who you are, what you are. That's why advertising is so big and effective - it targets this weakness of humans. But it is usually a big con hence so many fake supplements, weight loss products etc etc.

My point exactly. I agree with you fully.

What i am saying and you dont seem to have picked up on it, are that the ones usually who start taking steroids are thinking that taking them they will become better fighters. That they will compensate for them being a pussy. Those that have been bullied throughout life and cant fight. Those in the MMA clubs who start training and get whupped.

Thats what i am saying, and its their insecurity that is causing them to seek boosts or shortcuts or alternatives to be the tough macho man. The reality is a fighter is someone who has a natural aptituide for it, just like some have the aptituide for long distance running and others short distance or shotput, or javelin. With fighting, because its the primal display of manliness or power or authority of alpha maleness, people don't want to admit they cant fight and in their insecurity may resort to taking steroids to compensate.

Now if the while field is using steroids the natural fighters will take them too , to keep the playing field level. However i feel that they are generally useless - bob sapp comes to mind.

so why do steroids exist if God didn't will them? are they a "test" ?

They exist cos god wants to give people like you a second chance and show you he exists.

 i already knew he existed long b4 my illness...i also know plenty of atheists taking them and thanking human ingenuity. we're both right.

human ingenuity

Nothing man made is better than nature.

Steroids are not better than natural hormones. Those on TRT know this, the constant tweaking, E2 management and the hassle. You cant beat nature, you cant beat what god made in a healthy functioning endocrine system.

Now, why would someone with a perfectly healthy endocrine system jeopardise it, by taking artificial steroids in the hope they can look like an alpha male or fight like an alpha?

The answer to that is the root causes of our problems. To solve the problems you got to address and come to terms with the root. Then the need to do anything of the like disappears. You become content and happy, fulfilled and at peace cos guess what, taking steroids is you trying to address these issues and thinking steroids will give you what you are seeking.....they wont. That's why mental problems are rife, the unease, the anxiety, the worries, the stress, the pressures are so abundant and why we fall for conmen who try to appeal to our weakness, our ego, our wants. Sometimes what you want is not something you are supposed to have. Accept it, be happy about it.

I wanted opinions, I was not expecting the sentiment of superiority, an assumption of some styles over others, and I mostly did not expect someone to look so whole heartedly into this.

The question, as I said, is much more simple. To keep up with Cage Fighters and Martial Artists who dedicate their life to the art, 'Simple Blackbelts', guys with Little Dragon Karate Black Belts, or online certifications are taking steroids in my area now to perpetuate the notion, false let me add, that they can beat up a Cage Fighter. Even one of your caliber, Hearing a guy seriously state, "Fedor does not look that tough" and finishing it off with that same person stating they will fight him and mess him over insults everyone in our sport, because some men do a LOT more than others to attain their goals, and its purely insulting.

So as I said, what is the opinion of other steroid users of guys taking steroids to ultimately perpetuate the belief they can beat up professionals with no real backing? I am not attacking you or the Gracie style here, just trying to explain my competence and clarify so neither of us need to post long drawn out posts when the opinion should be much more simple. :o

Jeet Kune Do:
My answer to your question: when skill sets of opposing fighters are virtually identical, the bigger, stronger, faster one almost always wins. That's the answer to the question I think you're sort of asking. I think you actually might be saying that you look down on people from "McDojos", and they're stupid for taking steroids. But it's okay to take steroids if you're a "real" martial artist like yourself.

musulman:
Why are you even a member of this forum? Why do you find it wrong to try and achieve all that you possibly can? God gave men facial hair...Is it wrong to shave it clean, because I think it looks better that way? I guess that makes me insecure, huh?

My role is to get people to come to terms with the reality most of y'all are running from, avoiding and unhappy about. Everyone seeks peace and happiness and many feel steroids will get them that, they wont.

My role is as a 'warner' and to share my experiences, telling y'all not to tread this path. I got a wealth of experience behind me, its all usually a road to no where leaving you with the exact same issues you thought would go away after jucing and then you end up with more. The key is to face the issues you feel the need to address through steroid use, accept, become content and that will bring peace and eradicate need.

This thread is an apt example of what i am saying, people take steroids to fight. Those people are fake and are not fighters. They took the steroids usually to try and compensate for their weaknesses and trying to be something they are not. The solution for them would be to seek out why they feel the need to be something else, and be happy with what they are. Everyone, when all is said and done wants peace, happiness. The common teenagers thinking is i am not happy cos i am skinny and i wont get laid, so mi just use steroids to get big and get laid then i will be happy and at peace. A common thinking of a bimbo is i have small breasts thats why men dont like me, if i got a boob job men would like me. Of a man who is not a natural fighter or a natural mesomorph or someone who gains muscle slowly, i am weak and not aggressive or manly or muscular, if i took steroids i too can be tough, strong and macho insert whatever and will be able to stand up for myself and be the main man, i will get attention of women and men, i will be sexy and desired and this will make me happy, get me laid and i will be at peace.

ts the search for this peace that causes us to think that doing this or doing that will allow us to obtain it. When in actual effect its all a red herring, what needs to be done is issues needs to be addressed, accepted, come to terms, to bring about contentment and peace. That's why belief in god can bring so much peace and free people from anxiety and worry because people leave it to god and thus are content and accept.

Athiests who don't believe in god also need to address these issues but instead of leaving it to god, they will need to launder their issues in a way that suits them. regardless it needs to be done otherwise you will have problem after problem.

Regarding Fedor...It would be a mistake not to take advantage of every legal opportunity to get an edge. If it isn't illegal, anyone can do it, and it isn't cheating.

are all laws rightful, moral and ethical? if not, is it rightful, moral or ethical to obey them?

What if you have an upcoming fight, and you find out your opponent got real busy with his day job for a few weeks, and couldn't train. So, you would take a few weeks off as well, to make it "fair"? If you want to make it far in professional MMA, you have to take every legal advantage available to you. Otherwise, you'll be left in the dust.

whoa whoa whoa...

HAHAHA..

I am the LAST person who will teach that laws, or those who obey them, are ethical or moral in any way.

I meant illegal by the rules of MMA.

And I don't believe high altitude training is illegal.

This was BILLYDIDIT's argument to me in another thread. He kept bringing up the fact that "he worked a real job" LOL

Like that somehow made it FAIR for him to use 'roids to make up for the fact that the other guy quit his job to train all day!!....wtf?

ok now, ur both running from the point...obviously "life isn't fair", but WHY is one hard-to-attain biological-performance-enhancement tool legal and another illegal?
