Booze and a crazy female most likely. Him, the gear, firearms, booze, and other people never should’ve been in the same place at the same time.
It looks like he had around 5 acres of land. A neighbor can’t be but so close by with that much space. How would anyone know where the gun was fired. He could’ve been out drinking by a big bonfire and shot the gun. Strange that they say it was in the house.
Look at the google aerial photo. Neighbor to east is close and neighbor across street to south is close too.

He’s been in business a while with a few roadblocks. I’m sure he had someone’s attention somewhere that wanted to get a peek inside of his home. He lived on a loop so possible someone called and said they heard shots, le came to the scene said it was reported coming from inside the home. So on and so forth.....
