Republican commentator Rick Wilson explained that if the Republican members of the “Gang of 8” had discovered anything in their classified FBI and Justice Department briefing that proved there was a “spygate,” that Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA)would have been the first to scream it from the rooftops.

“I think the big lie of the week that was exposed was if they had found anything in this Justice Department briefing, Devin Nunes would have run out of there like a monkey with his ass on fire to say there was a spy that they caught and knew who it was,” Wilson told an MSNBC panel Sunday.

He went on to explain that Nunes would have turned the findings into a “giant show.” Instead, they didn’t say a word. It’s enough to make Wilson think that the move was simply another “play” from team Trump.

The 45th president is often described—and sometimes praised—as “authentic.” That compliment, if is a compliment, is not truly deserved. In many ways, President Trump is not the man he seems. He was not a great builder, not a great dealmaker, not a billionaire, not a man of strength and decisiveness.

But there is one way in which he truly is authentic: He is never able to play-act the generous feelings that he so absolutely lacks. “To show an unfelt sorrow is an office which the false man does easy.” In that one sense, Donald Trump is not false. He does not feel sorrow for others, and he does not try to pretend otherwise.

Trump’s perfect emptiness of empathy has revealed itself again and again through his presidency, but never as completely and conspicuously as in his self-flattering 2018 Memorial Day tweets. They exceed even the heartless comment in a speech to Congress—in the presence of a grieving widow—that a fallen Navy Seal would be happy that his ovation from Congress had lasted longer than anybody else’s.

It’s not news that there is something missing from Trump where normal human feelings should go. His devouring need for admiration from others is joined to an extreme, even pathological, inability to return any care or concern for those others. But Trump’s version of this disconnect comes most especially to the fore at times of national ritual.

Donald Trump cares enormously about national symbols—the flag, the anthem—when he can use them to belittle, humiliate, and exclude.

But when it comes time to to lead the nation in its shared rituals of unity and common purpose, Donald Trump cannot do it. He is, at most, president of slightly more than half of white America, and often not even that.

All this was inspired by the principle - which is quite true in itself - that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.

It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation.

For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying.

WASHINGTON — As a candidate, Donald J. Trump claimed that the United States government had known in advance about the Sept. 11 attacks. He hinted that Antonin Scalia, a Supreme Court justice who died in his sleep two years ago, had been murdered. And for years, Mr. Trump pushed the notion that President Barack Obama had been born in Kenya rather than Honolulu, making him ineligible for the presidency.

None of that was true.

Last week, President Trump promoted new, unconfirmed accusations to suit his political narrative: that a “criminal deep state” element within Mr. Obama’s government planted a spy deep inside his presidential campaign to help his rival, Hillary Clinton, win — a scheme he branded “Spygate.” It was the latest indication that a president who has for decades trafficked in conspiracy theories has brought them from the fringes of public discourse to the Oval Office.

Now that he is president, Mr. Trump’s baseless stories of secret plots by powerful interests appear to be having a distinct effect. Among critics, they have fanned fears that he is eroding public trust in institutions, undermining the idea of objective truth and sowing widespread suspicions about the government and news media that mirror his own.

“The effect on the life of the nation of a president inventing conspiracy theories in order to distract attention from legitimate investigations or other things he dislikes is corrosive,” said Jon Meacham, a presidential historian and biographer. “The diabolical brilliance of the Trump strategy of disinformation is that many people are simply going to hear the charges and countercharges, and decide that there must be something to them because the president of the United States is saying them.”

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A top lieutenant for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is reportedly about to travel to the United States to discuss a possible summit between Kim and U.S. President Donald Trump, a clear sign, if it happens, that preparations are in the final stage. But history shows that such trips don’t always lead to summits: The high hopes raised by a similar North Korean mission to Washington to set up a leaders’ summit 18 years ago ended up dashed.

Kim Yong Chol, a vice chairman of the ruling Workers’ Party who was seen in the Beijing airport on Tuesday by The Associated Press, has been deeply involved in the diplomacy that followed Kim Jong Un’s sudden outreach to Washington and Seoul earlier this year.

He is among a small group of North Korean officials who have accompanied Kim Jong Un to all four of his summits with foreign leaders in recent months — twice with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and twice with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He also visited South Korea in February to attend the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics at the start of Kim Jong Un’s charm offensive.

Kim Yong Chol, who is about 72, is a contentious figure outside North Korea.

GOT COMPASSION

The United States government has been separating immigrant children from their parents in Trump’s New World Order of Chaos and Uncaring. Just in case that’s not heartless enough, they’ve also lost track of nearly 1,500 children who crossed the border alone (that is, unaccompanied by adults).

Christian conservatives are outraged. They’re demanding answers, justice, compassion, and they’re about to storm the White House and Congress until this situation is explained and rectified.

Nah, just kidding. We’re talking about actual children here and not 1,500 fetuses.

The Department of Health and Human Services place unaccompanied minors with sponsors and from there, they throw their arms in the air and say, “not our problem anymore.”

From The Washington Post, “From October to December 2017, HHS called 7,635 children the agency had placed with sponsors, and found 6,075 of the children were still living with their sponsors, 28 had run away, five had been deported and 52 were living with someone else. The rest was missing.” HHS argues that they’re not their responsibility after being placed with sponsors.”

It’s not just about legal responsibility, but humanity and compassion. Senator Rob Portman of Ohio pointed out that federal officials handed eight children over to human traffickers who put them to work on an egg farm in Ohio. If immigrant children could actually lay eggs, there’d probably be a lot more handed over for trafficking.

Earlier in the month, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the Justice Department will begin prosecuting everyone who crosses the southern border illegally, even if they’re seeking asylum. So, if you’re entering the United States illegally, take my advice and do it on an airplane and do it while being white. Most people who enter this nation illegally don’t enter through our border with Mexico. Most enter legally, through the air, and overstay their visas.

Other facts: Only about three percent of immigrants here illegally have been convicted of felonies or serious misdemeanors. Most have been here over a decade. More than 30% own homes. They don’t collect welfare. They pay taxes. The majority of people here who have overstayed their visas are from Canada.

Which brings us to the stupid, racist border wall Trump has proposed. He is blaming Democrats for the missing children. He claims he’s for a pathway to citizenship for children who were brought here illegally, but only if he gets his wall. But, the wall won’t stop airplanes. The wall won’t stop someone from overstaying their visa. The wall won’t stop ladders. The wall is a racist prop.

Trump’s daughter and adviser (which is a ridiculous sentence I have to write), Ivanka, posted a pic on social media snuggling her son. Awwww. Critics quickly criticized her attempt at posing as the perfect family while there are children being ripped apart from their parents. But, in Ivanka’s defense, she’s rich and white. Plus, if it makes you feel better, in her pursuit of children issues, she was just awarded several new trademarks in China where little tiny fingers will now be making her designer handbags. I knew you’d feel better.

The new normal is being heartless, uncompassionate, uncaring, and just not giving a rat’s ass unless it’s you or one of your rich cohorts. And if you’re a middle-class or poor white person who is really enjoying the treatment of people with a darker skin tone than your’s, don’t celebrate too much. Because Trump doesn’t really care about you either.
