Trump Timeline ... Trumpocalypse

"America right now: Trump policies on guns and immigrants plus his promotion of white supremacist ideas leads to mass shootings which result in parents of a tiny baby being murdered in cold blood...followed by a grinning Trump using the baby as a political prop. Evil incarnate."

David Rothkopf

"Terrible things are happening outside... poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared." - Anne Frank (Jan 13, 1943)

A really exceptional work of obscenity, like a really exceptional work of beauty, exceeds the ability of its viewers to fathom what they just saw. Did that just happen? But … how? What sorcery created it? Words don’t arrive, and the stammering gives way to silence.

The latest publicity photograph of the president in El Paso, Texas, knocked me into silence for a good half hour this morning while I tried to figure out the many layers of obscenity on display. The photo features a baby whose parents were killed in El Paso a few days ago. The baby survived because his parents shielded him with their bodies. In the photo, he is cradled by Melania Trump. The president is next to her; both are smiling broadly, and the president is offering a thumbs-up. The child is expressionless and wearing a cute plaid bow tie.

WASHINGTON — As President Trump doubles down on a re-election approach of stoking fear of immigrants, he is once again elevating a voice of validation — and many say racism — that he discovered during his last presidential campaign.

That voice is Katie Hopkins, a far-right British commentator who has made denunciations of migrants and Muslims — and defenses of Mr. Trump — a staple of her public discourse. British headlines have routinely labeled Ms. Hopkins a “racist” and a “bigot” for her views about immigrants.

On Saturday morning, Mr. Trump invoked Ms. Hopkins shortly before a mass shooting that killed 22 in El Paso, where the suspect wrote an anti-immigrant manifesto that echoed Mr. Trump’s inflammatory language about migrants.

It must be tough to be Ivanka Trump. As the favored daughter of an openly racist president, and as a woman with a nebulous, nepotistic, and unpaid job as a senior adviser to that man, she is uniquely ill-equipped to condemn white supremacy, the very system that has fueled her unlikely rise to power. Yet there she was Monday, weighing in on the horrific mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, tweeting about the “evil that must be destroyed” to a chorus of guffaws. Has she met her father?

Being unqualified has never stopped Ivanka before. ...

Despite her abysmal track record, Ivanka continues to fail upward, the Peter Principle in blonde. ...

Like a grown-up Veruca Salt with a security clearance, Ivanka Trump wants the world, and she wants it now. She is the human embodiment of white privilege, reeking of complicity, as Saturday Night Live so aptly conveyed in a spoof of a fragrance ad. She’s so white that the racists who comprise a significant portion of her father’s “base” don’t seem to care that she converted to Judaism. Literally everything about Ivanka is white, including the cover of her poorly selling 2017 book, Women Who Work, containing dull observations and often misattributed quotes about gender equality. Her new dog, named Winter and hailed on Instagram as “the newest member of the Kushner family,” has sparkling blue eyes and fur as white as snow. Her voice, with its sleep-inducing ASMR inflections, sounds like white noise. Some have pointed out that she seems to adapt her eye color—from brown to blue, using colored contacts—when interacting with her father.
