Vis Vires Busted by DEA

It's depressing that we are still dealing with the "war on drugs" mindset in the US and are still arresting and and imprisoning people for drugs. It costs taxpayers a ton of money, wastes an insane amount of resources, and ruins people's lives for nothing. Decades of harsh punishments and imprisoning people has achieved absolutely nothing besides costing, working people money and ruining lives. It's disgusting and depressing and I can't believe we haven't learned yet that it doesn't work. I think we're still dealing with this mentality because of a mix of power, money, lobbying, and garden variety stubborn stick your head in the sand retarded thinking.
We can't even get the government to rein in spending to within sustainable levels of borrowing, and you expect that level of reasonableness from the same politicians? LOL

I'm old enough now that I generally expect anything government to be slow and poorly run. Definitely don't expect it to change, but still get pissed off at their stupidity. At least all these for-profit prisons are creating jobs and helping the economy!

East and west a somenwhat more liberal then center of the country.. but the southern states and the northern states are very conservative like the middle states.. really only 3-5 states on the east coast that are very liberal and then the west coast is really liberal except for most of Texas..
I only know of the legal system in New Jersey. Also we have a handful of states that are " common wealth" states and there laws and the penalties they carry are vastly different and usually more extreme then the rest of the country. Those states are also mostly conservative/Republican.. I myself am more Republican then not but I don't always agree with the party . I love my country it's all I know .. but it is a cluster fuck. It's easy in my opinion to say something is the best when it's all you know.
I'd like to spend some time in European countries and see the difference, feel the difference in how they are culturally different and the difference goverments.
I really don’t think you can truly love your country & be a patriot if you can’t be critical of it, or accept fair criticism of it by others.

I’m the same btw - I love my country, but it’s currently floating down Shit Creek without a paddle. Roll on the general election that will be held at some point over the next 9 months, because we desperately need a new government after 14 years of Conservative Party incompetence, law breaking, corruption, nepotism & melodramatic infighting.

As for seeing how Europe is different, then an easy & good way is to start watching European news broadcasts - I’ll wager you’ll be quite surprised how for the most part, politically unbiased & neutral eg British (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky News) & Irish (RTE) TV news programmes are in general - they generally tell you what’s happening, rather than putting a political spin on it & telling you how you should view X, Y or Z, as per most US “news” programmes.

It is like a vast experimental lab with 50 different sets of laws going on to watch and see the effects. Moreover, Americans are free to move to another state if they like it and its laws better.
A controversial opinion no doubt, but given the massive gulf in cultural values & norms (& thus laws) that exist between a very large proportion of your population, I wonder whether it’s approaching the point where the US needs to question the point of there being a United States & debates whether States should be allowed to leave the Union, should their residents wish it for it.

I know it’s a political hot potato, but I’m not sure you can call yourself a genuine democracy if your government aren’t even prepared to debate this, let alone allow referendums.

After all, the UK had allowed Wales & Scotland to hold referendums on whether they should remain part of the UK or not in recent years & the UK government has committed to allowing Northern Ireland to hold one as & when Nationalist : Republican parties ask for one - they haven’t done so yet because they know they wouldn’t win one yet.

I've lived in about 6 different states all over the country (USA). Some are very different about laws and shit.

Pro: you can definitely find at least one where you can live with the laws, politics, culture, etc.

Con: family, job, friends, money... it's not always easy to pack up and move if you don't like where you live.

It is pretty ass backward... indid more time forn3rd degree possession charge then half of the guys who were felons that had been caught possessing a firearm "certain persons" offense..
$100 of narcotics I did just shy of 4 years. I'm not saying I didn't deserve punishment. I believe they have it all messed up. Also I'm a felon now myself..lost my hoke and wife during that period. I'm not gonna act like if I didn't get caught I would of lost those things eventually anyway. The system is really broken.
Repeat wife beaters get less time.. max of 3 yrs.. seems oh welk end rant . .srry fellas.. one of those days

My ex wife has been arrested multiple times on multiple felony distribution charges with thousands of dollars of drugs and the worst she’s gotten is probation. I’d kill to have the legal system treat her like you were treated lol

I’m trying to move cross country and it’s so hard. Idk if it’ll ever happen. On top of everything else the current economy is making that much harder.

It can get pricey depending on how much furniture and stuff you have. Like $10k+ just for relocation costs even if you do most of the heavy lifting yourself.

Yeah you're so right, that stupid, backwards US. By the way, which countries don't "arrest and imprison" people for drugs, out of curiosity? Maybe when you get a passport we could go on a tour of all these wonderful places free of drug prohibition for a crack and meth spree.

The argument that any laws controlling drugs have "accomplished nothing" is a myth. Even your fellow leftists in Oregon have decided to reverse the complete legalization you want and that it's not a bad idea to arrest hardcore drug dealers and users to keep the problem in check, since when they stopped the number of them multiplied and folks started finding passed out or dead druggies on their lawns.

This is why we can't get reasonable policies. On one side are the ban everything extremists and on the other we have guys like you ok with fentanyl lollipops being sold to elementary school students.

You are correct that those strict laws and punishments have accomplished something. They've empowered and made drug lords/gangs rich, ruined many lives, cost tax payers absurd sums of money, and in my opinion made drug addiction and harm from drug use worse.

I'm not from Oregon. I'm definitely not a leftist. Not sure how you decided I want to give fentanyl to kids, that's obviously insane. I'm not on either side of the 2 proposed opinions you've offered up.

You seem rather dull minded and want to some one to try and shit on. No thanks.
