What dose it take to be a competive bodybuilder these days.

Thanks shredded. Do you incorporate the same set and rep range to all of the other body parts?
I do vary it but never go lower than 10 reps these days and have been known to go as high as 50 on days when I've been out in the sun to long and it has fried my brain lol. Seriously 10 reps minimum and probably 20 reps max on most exercises, although calves do cop a 50 rep bashing from time to time.

Thanks shredded. And do you normally incorporate the same total number of sets? For example I see on your back day you use 5 lifts x 5 sets. Is that the same approach you would use with the rest of the body parts? Would you use that same volume on chest, shoulders, and arms?
Thanks again brother.

No mate it will vary according to my energy levels and how im feeling on that day.

Thanks mate im glad your enjoying it, no I don't think your wasting your time, lots of people will do this, but maybe I could make a suggestion. Why not cycle it some thing like this, heavy day followed buy a lighter day, for example Monday is leg day so our squat session would look like this,
Warm up135x15
205x10
205x10
225x7
245x7
265x4
280x1

On the next Monday it will look like this,
Warm up 135x15
160x15
170x15
180x15
190x15
200x15

This way you getting one heavy day which will help build strength, then the next leg workout your going lighter contracting the muscles and giving your tendons a rest from the hammering they took the previous leg workout, this should help prevent injuries and keep training interesting as its constantly changing, weights given where only a guess and im sure you will adjust poundages to suit.

Tried this today
Warm up 135x15
145x15
155x15
165x15
175x15
185x15

3x15 leg curls
3x15 leg ext.

Thought I would start light.
One question,
Any of you guys want to come give a brother a hand up the stairs to my house.

@ Shredded how far would say far could someone get in the BB world without constantly cycling? And have you ever met any one who was successful who has got that far with out it?

@shredded I'm big on bodybuilding history much like I am of it's future. What is your opinion on the current state of the ifbb and it's direction. Are the correct champs being chosen? I don't know if you follow it or not.if not, do you think competitive bodybuilding is making the correct transition into what it is today or is the past history of it say pre 90's it's most preferable and successful run?

Arent we all this way....somedays Ive learned its better to just hang it up and maybe try a few hrs later or the next day, it just aint there. Moods and energy levels can change quickly , according to glucose & cortisol levels......~Ogh

Yes im the same, some days I will pull the pin after only one set as its just not going to happen on that day, its all about listening to what your body is trying to tell you.

Well I do know someone as it happens, my first 3 comps were all done 100% Natural and I managed to place in all of them, even place first in a regional one.

I think if you really are gifted and I don't consider myself to be gifted but you should be able to place at a National level if this sport is for you, drugs like Tren to a certain degree have changed this a bit as now if your willing to put your health second most can build a impress physique.

Once your reach above a national level everyone is on and big time, today I would say 99% blast and cruise no room for cycling at this level.

That's a great question mate, my personal view is this sport gets some bad press so the champs are chosen to a certain degree, they need to appear clean as possible for those that don't know any better, they need to be marketable to sell the sponsors products and speak fluently, for example I just don't think Kai is ever going to beat Phil as Phil is a better ambassador for the sport.

I would like to see a return to a little more symmetry rather than all out mass, don't get me wrong I respect the effort it takes to look like Ramy and all the other mass monsters but I don't like the distended stomachs we are seeing as a result of chasing pure mass.

I started this because I wanted to contribute. Do I have all the answers no, but I do know where to find them.

Fire away meso members im no guru buy all means but what you will get here is no internet garbage. just personal first hand experience and if I don't know I will say so.

Im very proud of the fact that most of my life was spent competing natural and placing in our nationals at a high level, im one of those people who I love others calling me out.

I have been lucky to mix with some awesome body builders and the highlight of my career was standing nest to lee priest 100% clean and placing, now I know this might sound argent but its true.

I wish to share what I have been blessed with so this is my way of putting something back, lets talk about posing, stage presence, tan choices, carb loads, music choices and how you hold yourself during compulsories.

That's bad ass, I have hung out with Lee a few times a while back, great guy. Tremendous genetics. Some guys can take very little by comparison, others blew into the scene and take horrendous amounts. Just look at the guys who have retired (and are still alive) the ones that shrunk down to unrecognizable ghosts of themselves.. yeah, they had to take lots.

Btw did you see lee did a come back and won the worlds last year? Crazy but it shut up hella shit talkers. When I met him he hadn't been on gear for a while and was still huge as fuck.

Yes mate I seen him win the NABBA universe which is the comp your referring to I think.
Im my opinion he is Australia's best body builder.

Yep that was it i thought I was mislabeling the one. Frighten good for him, see all that ink he has now? Lol dude came in conditioned as hell.

Lee is without a doubt Australia's best. That guy is a living legend and isn't afraid to speak his mind which is good for people like us to not fall into the marketing schemes associated with the sport.

tryed the light high rep squat day today..

135 x 15
145 x 15
155 x 15
165x 15
175x 12
