Gaining is way harder. Once you hit a certain point, you're force-feeding yourself.

You can cheat a lot more with cutting drugs. You can take all the drugs in the world but if you aren't eating enough, you'll spin your wheels.

Back when I was tiny I thought it was hard to build muscle, but once I learned to eat right it was fairly easy to a point. Once chemicals came into things well I changed my tune, I think it is really easy to build muscle now. Much harder to lose body fat and keep it off.

Diet down to comp body lvls and see how much muscle is really there. I think we all deceive ourselves with a bulk and what actual muscle gains that consisted of. Not pump, not water. Actual Fibrous muscle tissue. Its a ridiculously slow process unless your blessed with abnormal genes. And the vast majority do not have them. Thats what makes averages. Kevin Levrone comes to mind immediately.

Depends on how you do it. A slow, clean bulk is hardest. Meaning eating excess calories and staying within a set macro limit.

Now the "bulking" many people do, which is eat everything and yell "gainz" is easier than cutting.

Personally I think the physical aspect of bulking is harder and the mental aspect of cutting is harder.

Dieting down to low single digit bf is EXTREMELY hard and takes a very strong mind to achieve(cutting drugs or not) . But , thousands of competitors do it every year . On the other hand how many competitors step on stage at 300lbs , hell how many step on stage 260+ ...

I like the "bulking" style of things. To me it doesnt matter what percentage of it is fat gain and muscle gain. As long as i can pull it off im ok with it. I can always lose it after the cycle...and i do every cycle. Easy as that. Im stronger with the excess weight. ALOT fucking stronger. Ever wonder why most strength athletes are grossly overweight? Ive never been that gross. But the same principle applies to strength gains. They go thru the roof...which means im drastically increasing the fast twitch muscle fiber engagement. Which means im gaining muscle over time. No calculations, no doubts. And most regular ppl cant tell the difference between ripped and jacked. They just associate muscle and "he must lift". Most arent around our lifestyle alot. So a 290+ dude is shocking to them. As long as basic symmetry falls in line you can look good as fuck even without 8% BF and perfect abs. I can have beer and some good food. I dont have to be a premadonna over dinner with family or friends. I can be a fucking man. And that is what life is about. Now there will be a time to get smaller. As i get older for health reasons. I have no illusions about carrying this mass around in my 40s. Not if i want to live long enough

Wasnt your favorite wrestler bodytype RUSEV? Like some thing you wanted too look like? Lol

I thought you were past the 40 mark already.

It's a good point - I'm a reasonably lean (sub 13%) at 222-ish - at 54, soon to be 55. I'm wondering what is realistically possible to obtain at my age - from a mass POV. Ten pounds left, right? :-)

Definitely hard to put on good mass.

It's odd. I get gasps when I climb on a scale at docs. "I didn't expect you to be so heavy" comes around all the time.

I still havent decided yet if thats a good thing, ya know? Its like are they saying you dont LOOK as big as _ _ _lbs or does it mean "usually people at your weight are much fatter"?

Speaking of which have you seen Larry Wheels recent pics? Hes a strong as PL who decided to get lean for a show. I mran he was lean already but just getting shredded now. Hes 6'1 and 260. He looks fantastic. Huge! But in some proportions, at least for bodybuilding standards, he is on the "smaller" side. I hate to say that though cuz he looks great! I think extremely strong guys like larry and guys in general who are strong tend to produce more dense muscle fibers which can fool the weight scale. Its just weird to see a world class strength guy who you KNOW is stronger than his BB counterpart yet produce and entirely different look. In other words i think that could explain the scale issue. Thoughts?

Option 3: Reading headlines like this.

It's funny, I get the opposite reactions. I look heavier than I actually am.... Strange.

Larry is inspirational. The way he pulls 12 plates off the floor without flinching scares the crap out of me :D

I'm a short shit at 5'11, and nothing special at all. But like you mentioned, there's not a lot of 300lb dudes in public, or even most gyms - my elbows don't even fit in :(

I think losing fat is harder. But I have a slower metabolism. I imagine a skinny "hardgainer" will consider growth harder. So comes down to biology IMO.
