Meet Report 3/14 (long post)
S: 215/230/235 kg (518lb) PR Second and 3rd attempt , Biggest squat at the meet by about 30 lbs.
B: 130/137.5/145 kg (319lb) Not exactly a PR but I kept my fucking ass down and I got it, was a damn grinder but I stayed true to my form.
D:230/240/250kg (551lb) PR.
PR’d everything. 630kg total , 1389 lb. 105 lb meet Pr(wraps contribute to this obviously) Fell a little short on that 1400lb total I wanted. Got 1st place in my division, and best men’s lifter award. 9/9, 27 white lights.
Woke up at 530, Ate sweet potatoes and sausage for breakfast, 10mg halo, a coffee and 200mg , 81 mg aspirin after the rules meeting. Ate pop tarts after squats and a fit crunch bar, munched a PB protein sandwich during the end of bench and deadlift. Took another 5mg halo before Bench, and another 200mg of caffeine before deadlifts.
Squats:
These were rough. They moved this meet so damn fast. I was 8 of 8 squaters. I barely had time to wrap my knees. I started wrapping when the first guy of my flight made his lift. My 215(473) Opener was easy, hooks were too high on the mono lift. Had them adjust one hole lower for second. Second attempt was a mess. I didn’t walk out any of my squats during the meet (I didn’t train for the mono lift, walked every squat out in training) just set up and unrack. This threw me off, My feet were too far back and I untracked the bar off balance really bad, took everything in my core to keep from loosing it but I got it stable and made my shaky decent, wraps were too tight and my legs were going numb. It felt much harder because of my poor set and wraps. Third attempt went much better, smoked 235kg. I didnt wrap quite so tight, Got more rebound ,and of course after I knew I could have had a 240kg squat but I was conservative due to my rough 2nd attempt.Oh well.
Bench:
130kg opener, smoked it. 137.5 2nd, smoked it. Went for a PR. 145(319) It was a grinder but damnit I got it screaming.
Deadlift:
From all the carbs I ate and the water I drank, I had to be close to 230 lb at this point. I looked like the stay puff marshmallow man.
230(507lb) opener was a little slow but moved fine, mostly from waiting too long sine last warm up. 240 (529lb) flew. 250kg (551) was a bit difficult but I felt like I had another 5-10 in me. Back was tight , started getting a hamstring cramp during Bench warm ups. So went for a pretty sure thing instead of something I might end up grind on and tweaking my hamstring.
All in all damn good meet. Was really surprised at getting best lifter. Definitely like to do another one this year. Have some health stuff to address first. I don’t like being at 225. It’s too fat for me with the amount of muscle I have, need to get my hct and blood pressure down. Actually felt pretty damn good during my little cut. The heavy trading takes a toll on me and the amount I need to eat to keep up with the recovery and progress isn’t pretty. I’d like to be closer to 200-205lb. I think I’d feel better and would lower the blood pressure if I cut back on all the carbs. Summer is comin any how and I over the love handles. I’ll probably be doing more volume and more speed work the next few months and see where it takes me. Maybe even compete at 90kg/198. Even if I don’t loose any strength and can drop a weight class that’s an improvement in itself.
