Don't forget to use thread tape. Here is the nipple that comes with Whatman bottle top filters and a air hose bought from local home depot. And here is pic of the sloping end forced into cut end of hose. Fits nice and snug.

Here is hose attached to pump and here is other end (nipple) attached to filter with 500ml media bottle all ready to go. Flip switch and pour warm oil in top of filter.

For one the lab instruments would never sit upside down on a hot plate and get labeled as "sterile". That hot plate could contain bacteria, spores, viruses that can withstand the heat of a hotplate.
Water spots on glasswear is caused from minerals in the water or in the example in the procedures from bleach that wasnt rinsed all the way. In a professional lab setup only distilled water is used, never water from a municipal source.....
There are so many errors in the procedures, but I am not going to comment on each one, the person who wrote the procedures is using a "MacGyver" type of approach in making gear. It may work well for him and his followers but sooner or later someone will get ill or sick with these less than sterile procedures.
