It's not the laws, its the culture and mentality. Hillbillies hoarding guns cause "it's my constitutional right god damn it!".
Fun fact: Switzerland is one of the most liberal countries when it comes to gun ownership, you can have semi automatics or even fully automatic guns with the proper permit, a customary thing due to its militia based armed forces. Nearly every single house has some short of gun there, yet they have one of the lowest if not THE lowest gun related crimes in the world
The average American be like:

I never understood why a person would buy like 20 guns to have at home.
I saw a photo documentary, maybe it was on the Sunday Times.
The guns in people's homes, cabinets full of them, rooms stuffed with weapons, everywhere.
It was mad.
So guns for them seem to be not so much about self defence and security, but they become items to collect.
Idk.
Is it about status?
Is it about the idea of control, rather than the idea of having/wanting to use them?
When I looked at those massive home displays of guns, I thought they probably wouldn't even touch them, they are like precious China pieces you buy and carefully arrange on a shelf or cabinet, not to be used.
At least, that's what it all said to me.
So it all becomes rather senseless.
