.....annnd we're off!

Should be 40-44 and 45-49 in USPA. Keep dialing in your form and working hard. Don't worry too much about the numbers at this stage. The numbers will come.

Powerlifting is about constantly trying to improve yourself. I've worked with a lot of lifters and the one I was most proud of was a women who was a decent squatter and deadlifter (not in Wendy's league but still solid). She couldn't bench at all. Her leverages aren't good for benching and her form wasn't great, add to that she didn't like doing it.

We worked hard on bench for an entire 10 week training cycle and her form improved a ton. On meet day she set a 2.5 kilo PR after having competed for 8 years prior. The bench was still under a hundred pounds but I was thrilled for her and super proud because I knew how much she had busted her ass to get those extra 5+ pounds. That is what powerlifting is all about in my opinion.

Sorry for the thread invasion @Wendylifts. Back to the awesomeness.

Where can OR find a good basic program for him to start with? Right now he’s not doing anything organized and is randomly doing bench, squat, DL as he feels.

Have him post some more details in the powerlifting section.

I'm happy to put something together for him but if he posts it there he will get a larger variety of opinions and can pick something that he likes.

There are a lot of good basic powerlifting programs out there that he can just plug his numbers in and go as well.

Over the next week get some video of each of the big three lifts at 95% of your max and PM them to me I will take a look and have some good coaches I work with look as well to see If there are any major weaknesses that need to be worked on.

Then we can put together an off season program that addresses those weaknesses and gets you consistently training the big three in weight and rep ranges that will lead to strength increases. This will all be geared towards getting you prepared for a 10 to 12 week meet prep leading into the May meet.

Those are great numbers for your weight! Do you strictly train as a power lifter? I’ve always had success using Louis Simmons method. You should be adding 5# a week to the big 3. Easy on the bands and chains if you don’t plan to wear gear. They are fun to mix in every few weeks to keep it interesting.

Thanks! Yes I just train as a powerlifter. I’m adding in one form or another. I’m at 240 squat for different rep ranges right now and I’m a little scared tonight for the 6x6. I may die.

Heavy squat night. 255 5x5. Tough as shit. Not all of these were winners. First 2 of set 5 I’d say were passable. Not wonder woman yet with the mast. Mast does me right with water but I still retain some. And I’m a vain old broad. I hate it. Of course my love if caffeine and salty foods doesn’t help....tomorrow is heavy bench. We will see.
