PC,
I have one if not 2 of every model they make for civilian.

in addition I have a few others that require a tax stamp.

out of all of those... I find the Expert and Match to be some of the finest. as well as the P7M8 for concealed or compact carry.

smiles...
noted on .22. just don't agree. close range and multiple shots with good placement.
however, every situation is different.
with my family in the house... the shot gun and ruger are my goto...

the important thing is... they aren't getting in my house. My perimeter security rivals that of forward operating bases...on a budget.:)

I have a vision of you standing post at your house and drawing dicks on the walls like your standing post in Iraq [:o)]

When it comes to self defense I would tell someone to carry something bigger than a 9mm. .40/.45 is really the way to go, 9mm rounds are just too hot and don't pack enough stopping power. I'm not saying a 9mm won't stop someone but your chances of stopping someone in their tracks with a .45 are much much greater. Many PD's don't use 9mm's anymore because of that issue. The rounds carry so much velocity they just keep going through whatever your shooting and could possibly hit innocent bystanders. The only time I shoot a 9mm is at the range for target practice because the rounds are cheaper for me and getting good follow up shots is much easier with the recoil. I love my G17.

agree with most of your post.

disagree... with the 9mm

check the ballistics of a 9mm 147grain jacketed hollow point.

don't get me wrong... I love my 45's... but the 9mm when properly loaded is an efficient killer.

I am pretty anal with all my guns I always clean them, even if its just 50 rounds going through it, unless it is a high end gun than I will always keep it clean and lubed up no matter what even if I haven't shot it in a while... I believe that is what is important to keep your guns in perfect firing order, yes there are guns out there that are less sensitive to not being cleaned, nevertheless, it is a good habit to get into..

I agree with you it is shot placement, nevertheless, with .22 it will take mutable shots to take said individual down, if in a bind use what you have near you, but I wouldn't recommend grabbing the .22 instead of a higher caliber..
hell yeah I like the way you think it is important to set up perimeters around your house, some people call it paranoid or obsessive.. I believe it is necessary to, in order to keep you and your family safe, while knowing who is coming without letting them know you know they are there..

i have a few custom 1911's, 2011's STI dbl stack's, and Para's set up for pin shooting. Problem with Para's... after you buy them they need sent to a Smith to get stripped and rebuilt with quality parts. The Para double stack frame is the only note worthy part. Out of the box... the trigger is like rowing a boat!
XD's... same category as the Glunk... paperweight.

however, for combat and protection... HK's just don't fail. salt water... desert and beach sand.... they just keep working!! Hit a show and look for the Expert or tactical.

Beezil, what is your opinion of one of these from any of the original manufacturers, provided it's still in good working condition?

CBS,

those are great firearms.

A Colt 1911 preferably a series 80 GOLD CUP. Is a pinnacle in the shooting world.

not too mention it claims a high dollar on the market.

my issues with them... are to get a highly accurate 1911 it becomes less reliable as the tolerances get tighter. Now when i say less reliable... i don't mean 50-100 shots at the firing range.

i am talking salt water, riverine conditions, humidity and sweat of the desert... those kind of conditions. they have a propensity to jam... and 1911's are known for their stove pipe...failure to feed issues.
not to mention standard barrel rifling which causes tremendous fouling and a drop in accuracy. (this is a lesser issue with the newer polygonal barrels of the HK)

reliability for this model becomes greater as the tolerances grow... however then the precision decreases.

with all that being said... more than 60% of my pistol collection is comprised of 1911's and 2011's in various states... 5",6", and commander size frames and slides.

one of my favorites... is a Dan Wesson 1911 chambered in 10mm. The ballistics for this is off the charts!! if you are into reloading.

i also have a few in 9x19, 38 super, and 9x23... The 9x23 is another of my favorites. They can really be stoked!!!

sorry for the long post. hope that answered your question.:)

These would come in handy for that purpose.;)

Make your own with ammonium nitrate..it only takes about an hour each.
Remember to point them the right way and use a "double-click" actuator
Sometimes I wish a few knuckleheads would try a home invasion!!
Whaddya say Beezil? The government/police are soon to pull some serious crap on us eventually Im afraid!!

Every good instructor will tell you it is about shot placement. Right now, my go to gun is the Ruger SRC9 in my safe in condition 1 (ready to fire) and in my car I have my Sig 2022 in 40. Occasionally, I have been in very high crime rate areas, w/ lots of carjacking, and in addition to the Sig I carry my Kahr 40 single stack on me. If it is a really really bad neighborhood I will put my Glock 23 (which I don't really like shooting...but they go bang every time in my passengers seat w/ a towel over it).

My wife used to say I had a siege mentality until 3 thieves tried to rob her (w/ my son in the car). She called me as she got to our driveway, and they boxed her in. My son is the world to me, and I suppose I kind of sort of want my wife around[:o)] so I came out w/ my A/R-15 from the side of the house w/ gave me the drop on them. Houston had record setting home invasions that year, thanks to our hospitality for the criminals in from hurricane Katrina (thank you, New Orleans). My friend got robbed, the Mayor of Sugar land got robbed.

They decided to leave. As a general rule, I would almost never use an AR in a home defense situation (outside could kill a neighbor...I have really nice neighbors) inside could kill my son. I have a Mossberg 12 gauge...and this is kind of embarrassing, but I have never trained w/ a shotgun. Shotguns are the best for home defense. Just racking the slide will usually send unwanted guests running:D

There was a study done, where they asked criminals who specialized in home break ins, and guess what the # 1 deterrent?

Dogs.

By the way, we should talk about safety. If you carry (legally, w/ your ccl...btw, if you get pulled over put your ccl on top of the drivers license....great way of getting out of a ticket) you need to dramatically change your attitude.

Someone flips you off, let it go, someone cuts you off, let it go, some one insults you, let it go. If you carry, you have to be kind, loving, and tolerant.

Those are high end guns and sure are Purdy, but if you are referring to accuracy, than there are a lot of guns that will do the same if not better even a high point, yes they are cheaply made, but they will get the job done and accurate as hell as long as you know your gun or rifle, shot placement is the key... Nevertheless when it comes to self defense and you want to get the job done quick, 9mm and up is your best bet for being quick and efficient...
HEHEH so is the Remington 1100 with 18" barrel and 3 1/2 low brass 00 Buck! Why just nail one:)

i guess im really old school, a remington 870 12 gauge pump. a single action 357 ruger handgun . and a bolt action model 70 winchester 3-08, nothing fancy but they shoot straight and dont jam.

Damn am I the only one here that doesn't carry a pistol in my car? I carry a sawed off mossberg 12 gauge in the truck and a AK by the bed lol

^^^a pistol?!? I thought everyone had at least two...one in the glove box for the passenger, & one in the drivers side door for the driver.
