Conventional Mobil 10W-30 or Mobil 1 Synthetic 10W-30???

Hey guys. The 2001 Camry 4 cylinder 5 speed manual has 24,600 miles on it. I bought it with 24,000 miles on it. I am extremely certain that the original owner used Conventional 10W-30 every 3,000 miles.

I mean I dunno. My car I just sold had 198,000 miles on it and it runs absolutely perfect. I have always used conventional Mobil 10W-30 and obviously that is a very good oil, especially when you change it religously every 3,000 miles.

I dunno. I dunno if I should use the Mobil 1 synthetic every 5,000 miles or the conventional Mobil every 3,000 miles...... This sucks I honestly do not know which to use.

Cost is not a problem at all - Walmart sells
Synthetic Mobil 1 for only $3.78 per quart - very very very cheap. So I could care less about spending an extra $10 per oil change - $10 is nothing and I could care less about $10.

dumbbellpress No excuses, no regrets.

Also, Stncld, I said I never run my engine past 4,000 RPM, not past 4,500 RPM. I mean I am very very anal about maintaining my car. I guess that is why my last car was so dependable and so reliable and lasted for so long. I never EVER run my RPM's past 4,000.

Wow, thats an awesome price for synthetic. I checked around where I am and Mobil1 and Castrol were both about $5/qt.

No Bob I am serious. I have looked at all of the Walmarts in my city and they all are $3.78 / quart for Mobile 1 full synthetic.

Use syn and change oil when owners manual says.

This thread has brought up something else that is very interesting. Firestone has always changed the oil in my car every 3K miles. They use a Firestone oil filter and then they use my 4 quarts of Conventional Mobil 10W-30 oil. Do I need to buy a premium, expensive oil filter if I use the Synthetic Mobil 1 oil?? Or can I just use the standard $1.99 oil filter that Firestone uses?? I had no idea I might need to buy an expensive oil filter.

Picky picky. Go to the Mobil1 site under products, its on the right side of the lil pop-down list. To sum up, a Mobil1 filter cleans about 96% of crap out of your oil (20 microns and larger) as compared to 82% for conventional filters.

it also depends on driving conditions. If it is stop and go driving and short distances than 3k. If hwy miles than 5-7.5k. That is what I always thought was correct. What are your driving conditions?

DBP,
Check out this link, I had forgotten about this oil until Mr. Smith mentioned it. I am going to start using it you can get it for around $5 a quart so it is not any more expensive.

Thanks Bob

I've heard about Amsoil, don't know much about it.. I think they're a big name in racing circles..

DBP, I use NAPA filters in all my rigs, they are made for NAPA by Wicks filters. I even use them on the boat.

Amsoil was invented by Ron Popeil to baste his turkeys. If you order ,
and tell your
friends , you'll get a free injector. If it sounds to good to be true ------.

Figures don't lie. Liars figure.

Sure Amsoil comes up with their own great numbers.

I guarantee you Mobil could also come up with their own superior numbers.

I guarantee you Castrol could also come up with their own superior numbers.

I know what has always worked for me and that is Mobil Oil. I will always use Mobil Oil until the day I die. It is what I believe in and trust.

I am leaning heavily toward changing my oil every 5,000 miles with Synthetic Mobil 1 10W-30 and I will use a premium oil filter.

If I choose to go Mobil 1, hopefully that will get my Camry's 4Banger to 250,000 miles.

I guess any more thoughts guys???

DBP Have you checked the owners manual for the recommended oil change interval? I'm guessing it's around 4k, and did you want a manual transmission? Those are extremely rare in the Camry.

you are remaining remarkably patient in waiting for this answer. Kinda like your lack of progress on the video project lol. DBP, what type of driving conditions?!!!!!!!!!!!
