Curious as to where you seen that info.
U.S. Food Safety says:
"The guidelines for freezer storage are for quality only—frozen foods stored continuously at 0 °F or below can be kept indefinitely."
Maybe I am missing something but I have eaten chicken, beef and dear meat well over a couple years old from the freezer however, never pork.
Side note: the only meat that did not suffer quality taste?
The deer meat.
Could be because it is very low in fat which brings me to the pork statement ... some parts of pork are as lean as chicken.
Just my experience, however YMMV
3rd generation meat shop owner.
30+ years in the meat business have owned my own meat market since 1995.
You might get a bit longer from poultry.
Personal experience.
Beef for sure lasts. Now my dad packing house was huge, like the size of a mall, 400 employees, anyhow, I was rearranging the freezer, and a sirloin tip had fallen in behind a rack, tough area to get at without moving rack, so previous guys just pretended it wasn’t there, it’s the freezer, can’t go bad, anyhow I pulled it out, it was 5 years old. I took it home and we cooked it fir dinner, my dad and I knew, but didn’t say anything till the end. Well the dog got the leftovers, lol,
Btw, what is US food safety. I don’t know this organization.
Now the USDA, or FDA, CFIA.
Maybe it’s not connected with the regulated government body? Could be why you got that info. I’m not being a jerk, but if you have a link, I’m intrested.
Also packaging is a huge influence on how long a product will last. I bet your deer meat was wrapped well in butcher paper, maybe plastic as well, under the paper?
If the beef or chicken was the pack from the grocery store, well the trays and that thin wrap is poor freezer wrap.
