Does meal timing matter?

I can and have eaten 2500cals minutes before training. I can and have trained in an overnight fast. I prefer the former even though both are fine for me. Don't buy into that BS about blood and whatnot. Eat when you want to
I learned that in college. It happens to me to sometimes. Thats why perrin was right. 2 hours before is perfect

Perfect for you and Perrin. Not perfect for me or any other number of millions of people. This is why meal timing is important but there's no universal or general rule about it applicable to everyone besides "eat when you want to and when it allows you the best performance in the gym".

I eat about 4-5 hours before I go to the gym. Any sooner and I feel like the fat kid in gym class puking his guts out after running.

Eat whenever the hell YOU personally find it most convenient to your goals and daily schedule. End of debate.

I think I tried too hard but this is the message I'm trying to get across. Thanks for making a "nutrient timing for dummies" lol. I wish I could have said it so succinctly

Yea I am just trying to debate what is best. The people who have more knowledge can apply it to bodybuilding and increase gains.

This is a way to learn by getting others opinions and applying it to oneself. i.e point of this thread.

If multiple people repeatedly tell you that there is no "best" way when it comes to meal timing for 4 pages and yet you still want to try and "debate" what is best...where is the learning process exactly?

Please place me on block/ignore at any time because I'm not sticking around for members like you.

ok...I understand that meal time does not matter!

But meal time does matter to me because it gives me more of a boost when I eat carbs
1 hr 30 min before lifting.

Nutrition is not a hard topic. There is only so much to learn in this area.

FUCKING LOL.

If nutrition was so easy then why did it take decades for researchers to fully understand the implications of dietary cholesterol?
If nutrition was so easy then why, even today, do we still not have a full understanding of dietary fat metabolism?
If nutrition was so easy then why are so many people still determined to demonize one particular food source whether that be carbs, fructose, artificial sweeteners, dairy, etc?
If nutrition was so easy then why the fuck are protein metabolism studies still being being funded?
If nutrition was so easy then why are eating disorders on the rise? Why don't we have a better understanding of Type 1 diabetes and other related conditions?
If nutrition was so easy why do people still purchase bullshit supplements like BCAAs?
If nutrition was so easy then why can't most people explain the difference in metabolism between rats & humans and why we should IGNORE most of that data?
If nutrition was so easy then why do most have NO IDEA about the impact of different macro nutrients on metabolic adaptation?
If nutrition was so easy then why do we still not fully understand the impact it has on appetite neurophysiology?

I guess all those athletes & teams are just wasting money bringing in nutrition experts. I guess I also wasted money getting a postgrad education in human nutrition.

Your ignorance is beyond painful.

I meant general nutrition for non professional bodybuilder. But those are very good questions lol. You should be helpful like this more often.

Anyone familiar with Phillips' and Van Loon's research and review papers? They are THE top protein metabolism experts and recommend about 30 grams every 3-4 hours. So basically what old skoolers have been doing for decades.

Obviously the science isn't settled because of a lack of long-term controlled studies but acute data definitely supports the notion of spreading your protein intake over the day. Alan Aragon and that IF guy are probably way too invested to admit it, but from a scientific standpoint their recommendations are very muddy. Too bad their Dunning-Kruger followers don't understand this.

As a side note, even though I'm one of the most rational and scientific persons out there I've learned that in many cases old skool 'anecdotal wisdom' trumps extrapolation from experts/gurus in areas with a lack of properly controlled research. Case in point the believe by many scientists and doctors steroids didn't do anything for muscle growth in healthy individuals until the Banshal studies in the mid 90's. Same with EPO and HGH currently even though any experienced user knows these are very effective PEDs.

You do realize that in one of Phillips and Van Loon's most recent papers, 2011 I believe, they specifically state to eat 3-4 isonitrogenous meals per day and not every 3-4 hours like you're saying here?

Also in case you didn't realize, you're claiming that in many cases old school anecdotal wisdom trumps extrapolations of studies from gurus but Phillips and Van Look have no anecdotal old school experience training or coaching anybody and have no clinical experience outside the labrstory setting. Yet Aragon, Schoenfeld, Berkhman, etc actually do have experience and research to support what they claim. You kind of shot yourself in the foot there......
