Dogs

I just want to add its about 4-5 days post the second of TWO Injections 24 hours apart. The dog came home pretty much right after his second injection. I WILL SAY I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN ANIMAL SUFFER (as bad as he has) FROM A Vet/MEdical procedure as long as I have lived. The apparent PAIN he has been in has been absolutely incredible. So nasty he has been taking bites at me from mere touching and light handling. Just to pet him on the head he was starting to snarl after a minute or two. It is supposed to clear up in four days max. He's going a little further. And his back constantly all hunched up from where they gave him the IM injections of the Immiticide. Its apparently an ARSENIC based treatment.. Today my daughter leaned over him on the couch and lightly pressed on his hind quarters and he turned around howling in pain at her and jumped off the couch screaming in pain. He would have bit her had he not had the cognizance to recognize her when he turned. I suspect he's at the end of the painful part at this point, perhaps by tomorrow. He will probably remain sensitive to the injection site for as many as ten days I suspect.

Now the hard part is the mitigation of the dead heartworms remaining in his body. They state that he is to be crate kept in total solitude while his body breaks down the dead heartworms, AND A TOTAL OF SIX MISERABLE WEEKS!!!. Which of course is misery for the whole family. I doubt that will happen, but he wont be going out on his midnight runs to roam the streets which he loves so much. I believe I read the pinnacle of the risk period is around the end of the third week, which is when I suspect the next of worms in his heart will be dissolved enough to potentially break loose in mass.

But he is through the worst part of the misery with this treatment now, and once he makes another 4 weeks he'll be home-free to live the rest of his life (about age 3-10 for a big dog) happily, and getting to look after my two girls like he has taken grand ownership of...:)

He looks like a SPUNKY little mate with a ton of personality.

FYI - in case you have no experience with Goldens, your obstacle to his health will be ALLERGIES. They have proven them to basically be celiacs and highly allergic to WHEAT GLUTEN. You need to look at your foods good. The NUTRO Brand is pretty good. They were bought by someone and their formula went to shit, but they have changed it back to better than ever. STAY AWAY FROM CHEAP FOODS. I believe it is this which expedites their extremely high tumor rate these days - and due to the immune response. Look up MAST CELL tumors and the like.. If he has got any other dog mixed in, THAT CAN ONLY BE A GOOD THING FOR HIS GENETIC LINE..;)

HINT - Goldens LOVE to ride shotgun in the car...!

My dog is experiencing allergy causing him to severely itch and lick/naw at areas bothering him. He gets hives as well. Seems to clear up going into spring and summer but get horrible by winter. I have had blood test done went to many different vets. Even dropped big money taking him to a specialist Dermotologist. The androgens provided helped but come winter time seem not to do a thing. Which I was paying 300$ for the vial I had to give him shots. So I stopped the androgens and this summer he was fine like 90-95%. But as of now it's starting to flare up its horrible to see him in such discomfort and I cannot Afford meds that aren't helping him. Almost like the dryness of the winter effects his skin. When I have the fire wood going it's seems to even bother him more. I pulled the carpet from down stairs just before fall seem to help but now that we are up stairs he seems to get worst. I don't think it's just the carpet because he was fine all summer. I tried prednisone and he was urinating and having issues with that so I stop that as well. As of now I am just putting coconut oil on his coat and in his food. Any ideas or advice??

What do you feed him?? Brand?? Do you feed him human food...scraps and things?? It really could be as simple as changing his diet.

Tried different brands and types from fish to lamb bison turkey. Now I have him on blue buffalo turkey and potato. Seems to be the best one. Have even used medicated formula from vet and wasn't responding to. From blood test he was allergic to poultry. But he is doing the best with turkey potato it's gluten free. Give him scraps same usually all year around and he's fine during the spring summer early fall. He does have a week stomach tho. Also notice with the heat being in In the house that makes it worst just like the fire wood. He a Cali dog but we live in the chi

I will offer you all this. A natural k9 needs 70% protein as a natural diet. Even blue wolf is only 30%. It's the best though. Add raw eggs. All the time. Arnold approved

And yes!!! Their farts are amazing!!!!!!!

Problem with goldens is tragic. If yours is one where the skin cimpletely comes off where the report is. This is not good.

Contact Dogter J. John Symmes in Mobile Al if serious. He has a website devoted. Celiac related. But he's a vet. He just thinks he works on people too. Lol. Look up Dogter J.

But the goldens who's skin comes off in patches may have it too bad. It's sad too cause they are real intelligent. They are rare.

Normally the first place John looks is the ears. They are first to spike red and inflamed from an allergen. Check his ears...

There's a few things I love more than working out. My beautiful family and my dogs. Sabian and Tucker

Just a story on the wonders of dogs. I have a German Shepard and although he's unable to get certified as an avalanche or search and rescue dog (he exceeds size limitations at 120lb) I have trained him in searches and Avalanche rescue and do not go into the back country without him. He has rushed 2 bears that were aggressing towards me and is my early detection for any approaching animals or possible Avalanche (I don't know how but they just know) so when he gets buggy I always get to a safe zone. But anyways onto the story there was a person whom recently got lost in a hill I'm very family with so I went to go help and look and because I was there as a civilian there is no problem bringing my dog. Well after 30cm of fresh snow and no tracks to be found I had no idea what he was following but he was consistent in his direction so I trusted my dog and followed, while we were beaten to the lost soul by a few minutes (just happy for him to be found) we took a path that took 25minutes on touring skis in a almost linear path to the man. This is incredible for search and rescue purposes as a 25minute straight walk is roughly 3-4 hours when doing a patterned systematic search.

Dogs continue to amaze me and I'm very happy with mine and his performance on a regular basis (plus I taught him how to fetch a beer which is a sweet trick for company)

Albuquerque N, Guo K, Wilkinson A, Savalli C, Otta E, Mills D. Dogs recognize dog and human emotions. Biology Letters 2016;12(1). Dogs recognize dog and human emotions | Biology Letters

The perception of emotional expressions allows animals to evaluate the social intentions and motivations of each other. This usually takes place within species; however, in the case of domestic dogs, it might be advantageous to recognize the emotions of humans as well as other dogs. In this sense, the combination of visual and auditory cues to categorize others' emotions facilitates the information processing and indicates high-level cognitive representations. Using a cross-modal preferential looking paradigm, we presented dogs with either human or dog faces with different emotional valences (happy/playful versus angry/aggressive) paired with a single vocalization from the same individual with either a positive or negative valence or Brownian noise. Dogs looked significantly longer at the face whose expression was congruent to the valence of vocalization, for both conspecifics and heterospecifics, an ability previously known only in humans. These results demonstrate that dogs can extract and integrate bimodal sensory emotional information, and discriminate between positive and negative emotions from both humans and dogs.

Pitbull pure bred and a pitbull grey hound mix.
I rescued the bridle pit/greyhound from the humane society. Her name is Addison. When I got her she was 42lbs... now she's 55, and a freaking insane athlete. I'm 6'1" and she can jump on my shoulders, and yes she does it everyday I come home from the gym.
My big guy Axel is the pitbull. Found him wandering around the street dragging chains and a dumbbell. Found the owner and brought him back... 2 weeks later found Axel walking through the streets again. He ran right up to me so I pet him and played with him. Found a bunch of scars on him. Turns out his previous owner was running a fight house (if that's what they are called). Went back and told the owner I was taking his dog. I strongly dislike police, but they ended up getting involved.
I love dogs and I cold never knowingly let them live in conditions like that.

I picked up a rescue puppy at the beginning of December (one reason I haven't been on here as often as I used too!). He is a Rott German Shepard mix. He is super smart and full of it! lol. He pretty damn good looking also.

He gets along with one of my cats (the male) but the female wants nothing to do with his Tasmanian ass!

My guys in the centre 3y/o pure bred German Shepard who was suppose to be a working dog but got to large for weight requirement of 60-80lbs he stands at 120lb. I'm also taking care of my folks dogs as well for the week, 13y/o pure bred golden retriever on the right, in 2004 his father won the Westminster dog show that was 2 weeks after we got him fixed :( missed out on some serious breeding money there. On the left is a 1y/o medium Australian labradoodle.
