Favorite dog breeds?

Akitas are pretty, but make no mistake, they are stubborn as they come. American Akitas I don't know, but the Akita Inus... man... they can make a mule seem like the most cooperative animal in the world. They need a special kind of stupid to own them
They always kept the akitas well away from all the other dog corals at the AKC shows where we used to show our Rottweiler. You’d hear constant growling and scuffles coming from those areas all day.

We got our Rottweilers from Graudstarks Rottweilers which was the gold standard German breeder here in America for many years until the old man died. Our dog Paddington came from Luger and Sasha and was 1st or 2nd in every show he entered until he was about 4 when then he nipped a judge during the testicle check.

$2k+ for a Rottweiler in the 80s! You had to sign an agreement that they could come and take the dogs 2 weeks before any show so they can get him disciplined and trained up for the show and they held perpetual studding rights and collected all proceeds when Paddington and Kujo were used for studding. I loved those dogs and we had them during a time where there was hardly any American breeders so it was very rare to see another one back in those days.

Idk why I decided to add all that extra info. Was sitting the boat ramp waiting for the thunderstorms to pass, which they did, and shortly after they did the customer canceled due to thunderstorms lol. So I was sitting here wondering what I should do and started rambling on meso.

Ya Akitas look pretty neat, its hard to find breeders that breed them on the bigger side though. After isha, think ill try my hand at a male one of her though..

Not this one, the Japanese one, the one Narta says is "difficult".
That is what I have always heard about them.

I know someone who had one.
He was barking a lot and whenever he took the dog out for a walk, just the sight of another person would make him agitated.
They do look quite "pictorial" and cartoony.
Idk, the proportions of the face, with the fluffy checks, the white and red fur.

The American version looks like a chunky husky, to me.
Or maybe it's just the colour of their coat.

A old friend of mine (old biker dude who I grew up with in my dads MC club) had an Akita for 4 years and I absolutely hated going over his house (but he had killer bud lol). That dog was so unruly and just ballsy as hell. It wouldn’t stop jumping on you no matter how much he yelled at it and tried to put it in its cage for timeout. Once in the cage it just barked and barked until you let it out and went right back to acting a fool. He spent a lot of money on obedience school and after 4 years of destruction and just disobedience he just couldn’t take it anymore and re-homed the dog to a horse farm where he could run around all day and act as dumb as it wanted lol

Sweetest, most gentle dogs on earth. Miss them every day.

OK.
It's sweet you miss them.
However, now I see why that girlfriend of yours left, lol.
Going for a pee in the middle of the night and this thing waiting for you on the landing.

The reason why you got married is that you had different pets.
Deffo.
Lol

Two actually, Hera and Kali, one after the other when I was younger. Sweetest, most gentle dogs on earth. Miss them every day.

You were saying I was missing out my toddlers not growing up with a big dog, they did, but they are already almost grown. when I first got with my wife I had a American bulldog lady and she was not really aggressive just super protective of me and jealous, when I would try and hug or hold my wife she would force her self in between us to split us up or watching a movie on the couch close together she would have to get in on it lol.

She was a big girl I’ve heard females are. Little more protective. But super super gentile with my kids, I’d put them on top of her and walk around.

It hurt so bad I never wanted to loose another pet. So I never got one untill 1 day my wife talked me into getting a cat, and feel in love again.

I know cats are super carnivores and hunters , but I love the instincts and independence they have. I could easily go on a little trip for 3 days and leave with tons of dry food and water and they would be 100 percent fine and content . Hard to do with with a dog.

Plus like I said I love the killer instinct, I don’t won’t eat a mouse, plus I think the cat is the only animal u could release in the wild or it run away and it would survive in the wild, any big mean looking dog would not stand a chance. I respect that about cats.

Also If u have a new born it’s not safe to have cats access to them because the do kill infants but they actually do it out of love and stay warm they will cuddle up to a new born to try and stay warm and can suffocate them. Plus pregnant woman can get really sick from germs when changing littler or some crap.

I always had a hunch that a Rottweiler would be a good fit for me even though I never really spent much time around them before. But yeah I would tend to agree. They are cool as shit.
yeah i've been thinking of getting a rottweiler for awhile.
from what i understand they are smart, loyal and instictual but relatively low energy.

I'm a dog person but I have had some bad luck with dogs lately, relative of mine liked a specific dog breed and his 3rd one was "off" , never looked anyone in the eye, very nervous energy.

I bought (basically rescued) a puppy myself, half rottweiler half german shepherd and it died a week after I got it because the seller lied about the vaccinations/shots.

I rescued a dog someone left in an RV for days in the summer and it died of heart worms.

I really can't bring myself to try again and I tried to volunteer at an animal shelter but it made me too angry , I'd be in jail.

I would definitely shit my pants . Even though I feel I could kill a rottie with my bare hands let alone if I had a little shiv most smart robbers carry pepper or bear spray or will poison ur property with a hamburger patty plus Decon . 1 big dog would send me for a hospital visit to fix me up for sure. But a pair of 2 would definitely get Me hands down.

Was it you said u had a am staff? I’m too lazy to go back and read it all. Ive had freinds with them just a shorter stalkier pit with a little more game/drive than a modern pit.

I grew up watching little rascals , different generations also. From what I read some say it was a amstaff, some say pit. Some say American bulldog, imo at least the older version it had to be an American bulldog.

What do u think?

I hear that I wanted to volunteer, also but if some dumb ass vet would be willing to put an innocent animal down also I would be in trouble. Plus beside the vests that volunteer most of them are special needs.

Rhodesian Ridgebacks are top tier. I've had one for about 10 years now and he is the best dog I ever owned.

Extremely loyal, chill, gentle, but they're big with insane strength and protective instincts so they can absolutely fuck stuff up. There's a saying that when a ridgeback barks, you should take it seriously because they don't bark for no reason. Really good with kids and families too. Textbook example of a gentle giant.

Neck and upper body are built like tanks so if they bite something they're going to toss it around like a ragdoll. They're not the biggest and baddest dogs but have a great balance of family dog and guard dog.

Downsides-
- They need a LOT of exercise. These dogs were bred to hunt large game so they can't be cooped up in a small space. Running in the backyard isn't enough. I used to take mine for 3-4 mile runs multiple nights a week and. he could hang.
- Insatiable appetites. Food is like crack to them. Even with the best training / discipline ever, there will still be days they snatch food off the counter. Mine has eaten an entire chocolate cake, a rack of ribs, multiple steaks, and he will destroy a pack of tortillas or bread in a heartbeat.
- Being large breeds, they are susceptible to more health complications and shorter life spans.

American Staffordshire Terrier, not a staffie. It has less game/drive than a og apt for sure. And they are bigger than the apt. Staffies are the smaller little firecrackers

That was a UKC registered Amstaff if I am not mistaken

Dang that’s horrible. Believe it or not my dogs don’t go to the vet at all. I would definitely take them if they had a problem but I’m going on 7 years and several dogs now of administering just flea and tick medicine. No worm medicine of any kind. And they pull animal carcasses off the mountain and down onto my property where they will gnaw on it for weeks lol

But health has not been a problem for any of mine since we quit going to the vet. It all started when I rescued a huge dog that would literally not get into a vehicle. So we just quit going. If that dog would have needed treatment from a professional I would have had to call one of those traveling vets.
