Garage gym vs commercial gym

Hey guys! My name is Devin. Clearly as you can see my handle. Anywho, I am an avid weightlifter. I have been lifting weights in my garage now for the past 6 years. I love the convenience of having a garage gym with work, and having a young family and all that type of shit. Having a garage gym makes it a lot easier to stay committed and less likely to.skip a day of training when you maybe aren't feeling up for it! Some of the downsides though would be, for me anyways, are having to lift alone in isolation. After years of this I yearn to have a training mate that is as fuckin serious about the gains as I am. This is not likely to find since you're not surrounded by like minded folks on the regular like you are when lifting at a commercial gym. I have had on 2 spereate occasions 2 friends say all the right things and be committed to the lifestyle. One lasted about 3 weeks the other, surprisingly lasted all the way through Xmas up until the "covid" lockdowns happened! Haha this was the perfect timing for him to use an excuse and to find an out from making weight training a priority or in my case a necessity to human life! another negative to a garage gym is just the limited equipment. Most of us are just blue collar income recipients. So therefore we can only spend so much money over the course of years trying to build a beast of a fuckin gym bro! My gym is pretty basic, I have everything a m'fer needs to get strong asf . But I do have a list of pieces of equipment that I will be adding over the years. I have a full rack cheap fuckin adjustable dumbells multiple different Rouge barbells a ghd a plate loaded cable machine and 2 car garage Sq footage to eventually add more equipment to! Obviously a commercial gym's equipment is probably gonna be nicer or more expensive quality. Ideally I would love to add a hack squat/leg press to my gym. And I am currently using my cable machine to do the hamstring curls and quad extension on. I sit on my adjustable bench and do the quad extension one leg at a time on the cable. This is not ideal when co pared to a 600$ used leg extension machine, but for now it gives a leg pump! So for those of you who have a home gym maybe post up some pics or explain what u like/dislike about it? Maybe explain why u prefer commercial gym over building your own gym if that is the route you train. And lastly if you live in oregon I need a legit training mate! loom forward to chatting. Also I like AAS and use them to enhance my physique and performance in my gym!

ML- Devin

My man... what do you have against paragraphs?

I bounce back and forth between home gym and one of the locals. My main gym is directly across from a high-school though, and lately it's become overrun with teenagers... which has been less than enjoyable. The energy of a gym is nice, but the peace of your own space is also nice.

I've very seriously considered opening my own gym over the last few years. I have another business and a rental property thing, I'm always apprehensive to add more to my plate - maybe someday.

Welcome to MESO.

Haha that's too funny! I suppose I could have broken that up just a little bit there huh!? Not gonna lie if you could afford to open and had the time to run or manage a gym that would be the best. You could ideally create an environment there that you wish your local commercial gym had.

There's my paragraph! Lol the main reason I don't bounce back and forth like you do, is I live in a small ass town so my local gym is rather pathetic when it comes to the variety of machines. I would have to find a gym in the current city I am working at and hit it after work. I suppose I'd be down for that if I knew I was on a certain jobsite for say 6 months or so. If I'm not lifting at home I would want to use different machines.

I could see how being in a good gym environment could make it easier to train hard. Some days by yourself it makes it a little more difficult to get that extra juice and motivation flowin!

Nice set up, I too have a home gym and train 90 out of 100 times at home and always solo, it's all I need to reach my goals, plus I prefer it. I can curse sing play the air guitar rub my self down with icee hot and not feel like a weirdo-o lol.

Home gyms definitely have their perks ... I'm slowly adding more to mine as I need more challenge. You have a nice setup there!
