Gear review

Just ordered a pair of fat gripz dammit I have no self control when it comes to lifting gear, on the plus side I'll have a review for you boys on them in the coming weeks
Just tried them out, good luck dead lifting more than 135 with those fuckers....

So bumpin this a bit but have some stuff id like to review as well.
Starting off with the fat gripz yes they make every exercise harder but I don't really notice a better forearm workout with them and they hurt my wrists with how wide I have to hold them so they have been thrown in my pile of gear I no longer use.

Hookgrip knee sleeves
These are nothing like SBD sleeves or STrong sleeves but for light workouts or "crossfit" style workouts are great as I can wear them for 8 hours and be comfortable kinda thing. Just enough warmth to not worry about my knees at all but no stability or help outa the hole. That being said I did squat 365 3x3 in them with no issues at all.

Onto a controversial one, headphones. Now I know they aren't lifting gear themselves and there is a thread on Bluetooth headphones but this is my review thread so I'm gonna throw this out there. I have consistently used beats wireless wrap around ear buds for my cardio and lifting for a year now I love them but they are pricy at 200 bucks probably can get better bang for your buck but I don't cry myself to sleep over dollars lost on them because they are great. Recently I've wanted a overear studio style headphone to really send the message that I'm not in the gym to talk and it makes me emerge myself into the zone better.
Bought skull candy hesh 2.0 wireless (have the original skull candy hesh wired from 5 years ago and still love them but I need wireless for my workouts) did one workout in these and the Bluetooth crapped out went back got a different pie and the speaker blew at half volume so their crap got a pair of Sony overhead headphones instead and wore them for a hour and my ears hurt from the pressure so I said fuck it and went with the beats studio 2.0 they cost 3x as much as the skull candy and 2x as much as the sonys but they are 100x better so I'm happy but my wallet hurts.
Beats studio 2.0 wireless headphones are amazing.

Voodoo floss, literally the most important item in my workout bag right now I am pretty beat up and my joints are fucked but I throw this stuff on for 1minute run through the joints ROM and boom I'm good for the rest of the workout if not the day!

KT tape, while rehab is overlooked id like to mention kinesiology tape as it works wonders to help with pulled muscles and aching joints or instability.

Rogue speed 3.0 jump rope, this thing is awesome and makes me really enjoy skipping again it's super smooth and fast. I got the fixed length version and I'll say if your on the top end of the size chart go one size up as with shoes on you will be the next size.

So Ive been ordering stuff like a crazy man here lately so I can have everything completely broken in before I compete. The last thing Im still looking at is shoes (I train squats and DLs in socks now).

Ive been looking at these because of the price (they do have them cheaper on rogue)

http://m.adidas.com/us/powerlift-2.0-shoes/S77952.html (adidas Powerlift 2.0 Shoes - Black | adidas US)

but of course the romeleos are the best reviewed everywhere. Is it really worth it for the price difference?

Or are there any other lifting shoe suggestions?

Because you lift flat footed I wouldn't switch it up to a shoe with a heal only 2 months out from a meet. I think you'd be best suited in either chuck Taylor's or sabo deadlift shoes or metal powerlifting shoes. All are flat and will be able to maintain the same body positioning you are use to

Ill have to look at the other ones. I bought some chucks a few months back and wasnt feeling it. Thats when I started in socks (before that it was just tennis shoes)

Well if your set on a different pair either the addidis powerlift or addidis do-wins have 1/2" heal, you'll have to practice a bit for sure and it's not ideal but both are good shoes to squat in. You'd need deadlift slippers for the deadlift though as a heal with deadlifting is counterproductive.

Here's my squat/DL shoe

And when I'm going heavy on deadlift

Total cost: about $45

The cheap guy who lives inside of me really wants one shoe I can use for both.
Reebok CrossFit Lite TR is their version of a chuck taylor. It's a powerlifting specific shoe.

Outside of that, if you want an all rounder their is the reebok nano, Nike metcon, and inov-8.

You don't want a heal unless you are Olympic weightlifting.

The crossfit lite TR toe box is stupidly huge I find and really expensive compared to a chuck. Nanos, metcons are ideal for an all around gym shoe for sure too.
I wouldn't say heal is oly lifting only as I use romelaos 2.0 for squating low bar medium stance. It's more your ankle mobility and stance width that determines if you need the heal.

Having a heal while performing a low bar squat puts you at a disadvantage because like in a deadlift it shifts your cg forward. I'm not saying it can't and shouldn't be done. It is a disadvantage mechanically when performing powerlifting squats and deads.

Olympic shoes are great for squatting even if a lifter doesn't do snatch and c&j. What I meant was Olympic squats (high bar vertical spine back squat and front squat) are more ideally suited for shoes with heals because at rock bottom a heal allows for a vertical spine due to a forward cg and assistance in ankle rom. Just thought it was faster to say only use oly shoes when oly lifting instead of explaining why.

I wouldn't say puts you at a disadvantage unless you are squating wide stance. Low bar or high bar doesn't matter with oly shoes it's the stance width and the bar path that's most important. I keep a more vertical back angle with my squats with my low bar as that's how I'm strongest through trial and error. You are defiantly right they aren't for everyone and that's why I reccomend flat soles for most that want to powerlift but there are the odd few weirdos like myself and candito and Layne who do low bar medium width and use oly shoes.
