shit you're a beast bro, you say your squat is sad but you're tall, do you go parallel or ass to grass? I would think you maybe could pull a lil more on your deads given your other numbers but hell then you just said your starting a cycle in OCT so if these are where you are at when you're off/cruising that shit sounds pretty fuckin solid to me. cheers man

Tall as you are and going deep in the hole will certainly skew your perception of the numbers :D I keep my legs pretty narrow as well which I've noticed may drop my numbers but when I go sumo sometimes I feel it in the joints more. Most likely bad technique because I've only started that within the last year or so. I'm surprised more guys don't have monster DL numbers though, when I see an ogre the first thing I think is "wonder how much that guy pulls?"

Me too. I fucking love deads and squats.

I basically alternate training between 10 x 10 gvt, 5 x 5 and 5, 3, 1 or pyramid 12, 10, 8, 6.
 
I am with JBZ I am a incline king 315 right now for 4-6 reps. I have gone bigger but everyhting is dropping right now. 6"1 246 most of these numbers are 2 weeks old at 264

I have 3 herniated disc's right now haven't DL or Squat in 6-8 months.(yes I still play ball and soccer hmmm wonder why I can't heal)
Not sure about 1rm have not gone there in a long time. Before 2-3 weeks ago I was in a 5x5 these numbers are 5x5.

Flat bench- 325
Incline- 315
Miltary press DB's 100-105 I do get help getting them up there can't hammer curl those.
Skull crushers ez- bar 145 Tri's are my thing
Db pullover 125 its the biggest they have

we also have a 1/10th of a mile track I carry a 125 lb DB for 3 laps like it is my baby.

I am old I will think of more. I think this leaning out plus my chiro I will be back to squats in 4 weeks. As far as DL maybe never.
 
Don't feel bad volt - I pushed my L4, and L5 right into my spinal canal and had to have fusion . I returned to squats .. If I can do it anyone can . Unfortunately I'm having left knee issues so I am having to use the seated press like a pansy right now .maybe have to go under the knife again to be able to Atg my squats again like I like

Knowing what you guys know now, and the way you have evolved your training over the years because of injury, what advice would you give a 26 y/o guy in regards to keeping injuries at a minimum and especially protection of the lower back??
 
How bout deads do you drop the weight?
If I'm doing sets of 5+ I don't but when I get to triples and below I usually drop it because the only time I worry about strain is on the way down

225 and down I do on a step and never put it down in between reps. 315 I hit the ground each time- give myself s chance to reset my form. Everything over 400 prettt much gets dropped

Is your goal strength or hypertrophy?

For hypertrophy, tileguy summed it up nicely. It's just hard not to let the ego get in the way when strength is through the roof... By focusing more on volume and contracting the muscle while training, flexing between sets, mind muscle connection, etc you will grow more and hurt less!

For strength, not my forte but programming is much more important here, your dealing with much more CNS stimulation & fatigue.

Also re: dropping heavy dead weight, this is a much easier way to get injured IME. You're adding serious velocity to a lot of weight and deloading your contracted muscle instantly. Almost a reverse plyo. If it the eccentric feels too heavy, I'd lower the weight. Plus your weakening this chain of the movement.

I know these are a bit low but besides being an old fart, had surgeries on left shoulder for torn rotator cuff ( it’s fucked up again, but I’ll just live with it). Also, I had a hip replacement (Birmingham technique) about 7 yrs ago. Squats and dl’s get kinda scary, start going heavier and I start seeing images of my hip blowing up.

No , but seriously , my hips click like a motherfucker on hanging ab raises and such. i feel like my SI joints will be added to the list of this genical orthopedic trainwreck of a man i am ..
 
Can't blame on her. Just wear and tear of 30 yrs being a grunt. I tell my ortho that the hip the only thing that doesn't hurt. In the beginning I had the clicking, then felt like a groin pull then over the years it just progressed.

R shoulder reconstructed
L shoulder feels like it needs surgery
cervical verabrea degeneration (narrowing of the neck )
mid back muscle pinch all the time due to the constant feeling of neck whiplash
lower back fusion
R elbow -tennis elbow
L elbow - golfers elbow
R Hip - clicks
L Knee hamstring sublaxation.

Im sure theres more, but currently Im really stoned
