how many of you are honest with your doctor about your aas usage?

Doc - where does AAS use fall on the RF scale? From a HCP's perspective....?

That depends upon the-dosage and duration of use.

While many suffer minimal sequale some like Dallas M, Rich P and several others sustain irreparable end organ damage.

IMO most Doc liken the overall risk of AAS to that of recreational drugs on level with ETOH.

To what depth is AAS use covered in most US accredited MD and DO programs? (Obviously not covered at all regarding use for performance enhancement)

I doubt a standard exists, exclusive of perhaps FDA approved medical indications.

It’s absolutely imperative that you are honest with your doctor. My Dr noticed some signs like rapid muscle and weight growth. He was beating around the bush and I spilled it too him. I told him to keep it confidential and said off record. Did he put it in my chart? More than likely, I’m sure his career means more than my choices. However he has warned my about liver, kidney, and heart problems he said comes with AAS abuse. He said he will never condone it but is here to help because he doesn’t want me to get hurt. For what’s it worth I am sure at some point I’ll need his help and want him to know what to look for. If you’re going to do this you need to be honest about it.

I just asked my doctor last year if he would monitor my test levels so I could find out where true hrt levels were, and to do a full blood panel to make sure I was healthy while running and he had no issues with it. I asked him if we could keep it off record and he said no problem. I told him I was not asking him to prescribe, just help me stay healthy.

He told me he does not judge, that I own my own body and its up to me how I want to run it. He said his biggest interest is in keeping me healthy and will help the best way he can and warn me if something is amiss.

Its too bad he changed his field, now I have to start all over again. Its a shame because he was a younger guy and understood. I still remember when I let him know. He chuckled a little and said, 'well I already kinda knew, most 45 year old men do not look like you', 'there are other guys I monitor'

Are there ways to keep AAS per se “off the record” sure but bc physicians evaluate a variety of patients all with different needs, histories, meds, surgeries etc we need some form of a reminder about YOUR drug related risk factors, many of which are MODIFIABLE.

{ As an aside I use “short script” for a number of my patients, it works for me wondefullly BUT, bc it’s written specifically for my practice, I frequently hear from colleagues on call for my practice damn Jim I can’t read your “writing” :) }

Back on track, A MODIFIABLE risk factor is a critical piece of information when a physician is confronted with abnormal lab tests which, in the absence PED disclosure, often leads to additional yet unecessary testing.

THIS is THE REASON you need to let your doc know your using PEDs .

Call it “TRT” or internet acquired “pro-hormone supplementation”
if you prefer, (but “hey Doc I think these supps are the real deal”, what you think, then shut up)!

The latter is offered for those who just can’t bear the thought of being up front about their PED use —- sort of an OMGI’ve incriminated myself by admitting to PED use!

SO WHAT, we don’t “care” but we do care about how a chosen lifestyle may impact your HEALTH

But for goodness sake guys stop listening to those who seemingly delight in propagating the notion
your “health insurance rates” will skyrocket yet obviously know next to nothing about the PRACTICE of MEDICINE or Health Insurance!

I have done no more than doctor approved TRT this far and one of the first things I did was to let my primary care physician know about it.

She askedbif I would bring her my blood work and it's coming with me next week.

My doc is awesome but she can't read minds. She needs to know so she can keep me tip top.

Only thing I can contribute is this. My sister-in-law is a Physical Therapist. Has Masters, but not PhD. Works as a subcontractor to Insurance Companies. They give her anonymous information that they receive from Doctors. She reviews the data and determines if the tests / procedures ordered by the Doctor, and paid for by Insurance, were reasonable. If she sees an abnormality, she flags it. What happens after that is outside her knowledge, but it is reasonable to assume that some percentage of flagged procedures / tests result in uncomfortable questions for the Doctor.

This is what I think about when I am tempted to 'open the kimono' to my Doctor and ask for any test or procedure that he would have a hard time articulating a need for without revealing my AAS use.

Your Doc definitely has the right attitude.

My doc is the best--- I discuss everything with him... No sense lying to someone that is trying to keep you healthy-- I feel as though If I could not talk openly-- I would switch docs.

I must correct this. I did try anavar for 8 days but with the HCG and test my shit was all over the place.

Did not mean to deceive, it was such a short run I almost forgot I tried it.

More Bro BS!

Do you even have health insurance !

Which single RF IS associated w higher premiums SMOKING !
What the doctor will do is bill with an icd10 code that is descriptive of “steroid abuse” and any claim they bill with that diagnosis will be denied member responsibility . That specific physician would bill it on all claims likely . Personally I would just consider that physician burned and move on. Per hippa that information can’t be shared.

There isn’t much risk to advising your physician . Maybe life insurance because that info is shared in that case.

Why is it those who opine “no tell the Doc” rarely carry HS.

Most Docs treat AAS use like any other lifestyle CHOICE from drinking to drugs, we see it ALL the time so what else is new.

IF ASKED simply KIS like yea I’ve
used TT some and then shut up, since a doctors office is no place to boast brag or reflect upon those “gains” or your “next cycle”.
Not mine.... but 2 others have.

Sounds right however i left one doctor that started me on Trt and went to another doctor. When i went in for my first visit and was giving background to the nurse she told me I was on Testosterone. I am not sure I understand how this works. You say because of hippa this info does not get passed on. How did the new nurse know? Or did I misunderstand what you were saying?

Insurance bullshit is out of control in our land. Ambulance chasing lawyers in every town drown out our radios with commercuals drug company lobbyist insurance companies with there exclussions and deductables yet still more then happy to take your premium every month. It is the system we have however flawed. Best bet be your own health advocate. And then fuck it live your life happy strong free of anxiety over the small stuff cause in the end it is all small stuff. Chief Techumsa.

I asked my pcp for a testosterone level blood test and it came back 201. She wanted me to go to there specialist down in the hood with a 3 month waiting list. I went to a trt clinic and started treatment. I have since went back to my pcp for yearly blood work and told her about the trt and I asked her if she would write the script for me. She refused and warned me of the evils of trt and it was clear to me she was against the idea altogether. The good that did come out of me telling my pcp is she orders test and e2 along with my regular blood work which my insurance will pay.

Call it what you like but if you fellas believe a male physician has difficulty understanding a PED lifestyle try a female doc.

While of course there are exceptions, but if the subject matter is legit TRT or monitoring a PED lifestyle the latter is, for all intents and purposes, a waste of time IME.

I will also add I’m unaware of ANY physician who will “help” those less than 21 run PEDs!
