JayMax - From Hernia Surgery to Greatness

Any pain while lifting? What is gonna be your gauge for ok pain and ow i fucked up pain

Actually I felt great (even though it was just arms). It was shocking to realize how much the hernia's had effected me before, even on an arm day.

The real tell will be Monday because it is centered around DLs. I know where I had the pain before so if I feel anything related I plan on dropping weight even more. If its still there I'll stop. One reason I kind of like trying this early is because I have a doctor's appt with my PCM and with my surgeon this week. So if there is any pain or discomfort I can point it out...but Im hoping there's not.

Honestly Ive been feeling better this last week than all year. Hopefully it keeps up.

Good man. I dont have to tell you just be careful. Youd hate to turn a 4-6 week layoff into a 4-6 month.

Good luck bro

First day back actually PLing.

First the pros: It was great getting back to it and having chalk fly everywhere. As far as I know Im not any more injured.

Cons: In my time off my powerlifting hands became ballerina hands.
I thought I was going light, but the light weight was harder than I thought.
I was pretty nervous. Before my first lift I stared at the barbell questioning if I should be doing this. Saw my doc this morning and gave me the ok and told me my abdomen would be tender. But when I felt it I kept getting scared and lifting up my shirt looking in the mirror to check.

All in all it went well, but I think it'll be slower in life than I thought in my head.

I won't be posting each workout, but I will post my weekly workouts. This one was posted earlier in a reply to PA.

Edit: Also I was GASSED. Like really gassed. I forgot how hard going from bro splits back to PLing is.

Yes, but its hard. Today was a reality check though. Greatness will take longer than I wanted...

I remember way back in this thread i said to you. Not to be the bearer of bad news or something like that. But hernia surgery is no joke and will take more time than you had hoped.

Head up. Youll get there.

Im right with you bro. Im just 4 weeks post op shoulder. I started 1 sided training this week. It kinda sux but its just nice to be in there doing something.

Havent touched a weight in 6 weeks

I would not do anything that contracts your abdominals yet. Like Squats or DL's. That was a major surgery and it's way to early for that stuff. You do contract that area in other lifts, you don't want to get reinjured. SLOW and STEADY.

I feel ok today. I only have one "heavy" day a week and that was DL and today. Having said that I think Im going to drop the DL and Squat weight a little going forward. Basically it'll be like deload week for those 2 until Im more comfortable.

But youre right, slow and steady. I have to balance that and the AAS because im sure once they really kick in I'll feel like I can do more than I can.

I have about 1 week and a half to 2 weeks until they say Im actually "healed"

Starting SD today. 30 days at 12.5mg day. Should be interesting. Ive taken sd, Ive taken tren, but never both at the same time. Either Im going to get crazy strength, or die. Or both.

And DMZ!! Not wasting any time, I like it. How much tren?

Only 300/wk. Tried to keep it low to keep sides off. I just want the strength. Also I had a little left and decided to get rid of it. Im not a big fan of Tren, but Im even less of a fan of wasting money.

Update: Workout #2, chest

This went HORRIBLY. I feel great. No injuries, but my strength is gone. It was supposed to be light day. I was doing 195 for 10 - 12. I got 6 and was gassed. Had to drop weight on everything.

Seriously had me down. Ive been hospitalized for my UC, not eaten for 2 weeks, and lost 25 lbs and had better bench days. Makes no sense.

Im not in position to test 1RM right now. I guestimated. Went too high oy seems. So I'll be testing weights during workouts to hit the appropriate rep ranges.

One week in and Im feeling great (2 weeks into actually pinning). No pain in hernia area at all. My cals are at about 5k a day. Im starting to fill back out. Feeling good, looking good, no complaints here.

Scar is looking better

Hows the training and healing coming along?

How many weeks post-op are you?

To date what, if anything, can you do pain free? With limited pain?

Hello All,

I said I would do a hernia surgery log. Im going to incorporate that into this log and also my after surgery training to get back to where I was, and beyond.

If you want to, read these:

Jay Max Log (Switching from BB to PL and a place to BS)

JayMaximus's First Meet Log

A little background:

Around 1 July I started having really bad abdominal pain. It was difficult to eat, and I couldnt work out regularly. Went to the doctor and kept getting no answers. At the time I was running Sheiko Universal.

I ended up taking a week off and couldnt get back to it. So I started doing bro splits every other day.

Around 1 August after a multitude of tests I was found to have 3 hernias. One umblical, 2 epigestal. Set up surgery for 26 August.

On the the morning of the 26th I went in, got naked, and got hooked up to an IV. An hour later I was in surgery which took about an hour and a half. I came out sore as hell. The first day I was tired from anestesia. The second I was swollen, the third I was feeling better.

I have 2 weeks until my follow up with no activity. Then I can ramp it up a little depending on what they say. Should be 4 weeks until I can get back at it the way I want.

Before the hernia I was at 255. 2 weeks ago it was 240. Now Im sitting at a solid 235.
Firstly, sorry to hear the surgery was a complete success.... JK.

Glad you are well, I had a double hernia years ago, I have ugly scars now that make it look like I have a fucked up 8 pack, cool.

Interested to watch how this goes, I had mine before my heavy lifting days.

Healing has been great so far. Training has been a little iffy. Being a powerlifter its hard not having the power. But its slowly coming back. This week will be my second full week back at it, so Im interested to see what I can do.

Only 3+ weeks after operation. I'll say this, right now I feel no actual pain. Not getting up, bending over, none. Last week doing DL I felt a little sore. But I felt nothing doing bench or squat. So today is DL day and Ill see how it goes.

Recovery has been amazing. I'll say this, for anyone getting surgery do a check on the history of your doctor and the facility. There are a few that have issues after wards IRT hernia's. I chose my doctor and hospital because they had a stellar record and its showed.
