Meso Powerlifting Corner

For the guys who regularly compete how did you decide upon your weight class? Is that your normal homeostasis weight? Do you go down a class if your within 7 pounds of it or would you stay in the class you are in. My thing is I need to be 175 for work or lighter I want to compete in the 183 weight class but without the extra weight it'll be hard to contend although if I could keep my power and be 168 then I'd be slaying it, but then I'd be 168 pounds and that also could make me sad :(

You can easily use water manipulation to lose 5 to 7 pounds if you have a 24 hour weigh in. Weigh in at 168 and be back up to 175 by the time you lift. I wouldn't try it for more than 10 pounds as I've run into some issues trying that in the past.

Weigh in for my fed is the morning of, would I be able to do this still? I could have up to 3 hours before my first lift after weigh ins and gear check is done.

I wouldn't try to pull 7 pounds with a 3 hour weigh in but 3 pounds maybe even 4 at your weight can be done safely and without losing any strength.

I just helped a female in the 114 pound class with a 24 hour weigh in last week lose 4 pounds meet week with water manipulation. She was happy with her meet results

Hot damn I could dig 3-4 pounds then I can be around 172 and make it. I'll prob ya down the road on how to do it when and if I need to. Thanks man :D

I weighed between 205-210 earlier this year. 2wks out I was 212. I had 24hr weigh ins on a Saturday evening and came in at 196.8 to lift in the 198lb class. Sunday morning before I lifted I was 213lbs.

I lost 15 in 48 hours to make 181's and ended up tearing my bicep tendon which I'm convinced was not a coincidence.

Since then I've pretty well figured out what is safe for me and what I can do without losing any strength.

I saw in the tread about all star sneakers. This guy in my gym powerlifts and was telling me my sneakers aren't good for these lifts. Something with the rubber. I have all stars. Are they good enough , or should I get power lifting shoes.

Small things add up and small things take you from good to great but until you've reached a point where they are required it's kinda moot to bother with it. Yes I love my sabo deadlift shoes but does everyone need a pair of 120 shoes for deadlifting? No absolutely not 10 dollar slippers work perfect. I love my Romaleos but does everybody need a pie of 250 dollar squat shoe? No a flat footed wide stance squat doesn't even need it period.

Work with what you got until you get deeper into this where your spending the time googling things like micro plates, once you've found the need for those then it's time to try and do every small thing that gives you that extra inch

I wear knock off chucks and on 500+ sets $10 deadlift slippers. You're good, brother. Later down the road you can always reevaluate.

For the guys who have done meets what are some of your numbers? Best total and best of the big 3? How many times have you competed?

Sorry, edited just in case. PM me if you want more details.

Do you think mine was vague enough or should I edit real quick?

Never mind, edited just in case.

I personally don't know which fed you lift in so it would take a lot of work to figure it out. Just remember though that your total and attempts are recorded down in the meet results. All it takes is a few of the numbers and which fed/class/division you lift in to get your name. I leave it as basic as possible in public and will divulge the real results in PM to those I'd like to have the results.
