Meso Powerlifting Corner

My old gym had one and I loved it. A guy actually brought his own to my new gym and the manager freaked out and made him take it home because it took up too much space. Funny because they have two Smith machines and three calf raise machines. I asked one of the trainers at the gym why and she didn't even know or understand what a deadlift jack was for. Commercial gym problems.
I have had similar experience with commercial gyms. I asked a trainer once if deadlifting was allowed, and her response "is that where you pick it up and then put it over your head?" I just stood there staring at her with my mouth open, and eventually said "ummm....no", and walked away. I couldn't believe what I had just heard. The gym I go to now, actually let's me keep the jack there, which I'm fortunate because hauling it in and out every day can be a real pain in the a**.

I saw one on Amazon that is a little ramp mad out of hard rubber I would imagine which looked very light weight and portable. you just roll your innermost plate up this ramp that looks to be about 3" high, put on or remove plates and then roll it back off. I think I'm gonna get one.

I thought about that one, but you still have to put the first plates on. I've looked at a lot of DIY options, too. The real deal is the way to go if you can afford it and they'll let you keep it at the gym. I can't do either at the moment, but they do make life so much easier.

Using a deadlift bar at the meet yesterday made me want one again so bad. I can't wait to get one, but I'll have to haul it to and from the gym because I could never trust leaving a piece of equipment that nice for the public at my gym. Feels so good to pull with though.

powerlifting pussies...... HAHAHA Just playing, I will be joining you in the future.

Paraphrasing a great man- everybody wanna be a powerlifter but nobody want to lift up heavy ass weight!

When you say your joining in he future it reminds me of my friends saying they will join the gym next week and eat healthier :p

We will welcome you with open arms though my man and watch your numbers grow

They make barbell locks so the bar cannot be used unless you have the key.

I'll have to ask the gym manager myself eventually or just do it and count on her not noticing since she doesn't even lift, but a guy I know at the gym and that I'm inclined to believe said the manager told him he couldn't lock up his strongman axle bar if he left it there. He does leave it there and I've never seen anyone else so much as touch it, but it's heavier and makes a lift harder though, so the average gym goer wants no part of it. A deadlift bar, on that other hand, would very likely become everyone's favorite bar for everything and get damaged by some idiot doing overhead squats and dropping it or 1" range of motion rack pulls with way too much weight and then leaving it loaded.

I know a trainer there and I might be able to keep it in the back somewhere. If not I'd just haul it there on heavy deadlift days. I'll find some way.

Deadlift jacks are the best but my gym doesn't have one and they certainly wouldn't allow one brought in. So, like most of you probably do, I just roll the first 45 plate on a 2.5 or 5lb plate to prop it up. Its not best method but its free and it works.

I have never even considered using the deadlift jack at my gym nor do I roll it up on little plates, my technique for getting plates on and off has gotten quite good but now I wonder if the added slitting I'm doing in that time is zapping some energy. I shall defiantly be using the jack from now on :)

Do you guys lock out all the way on standing OHP ? I typically do for warm ups but once the weight gets to working weight I do the elbow to eye height and call it a rep. Is that bogus?
