Meso Powerlifting Corner

What do you guys think of this bar
http://www.roguecanada.ca/rogue-chan-bar
Thinking about picking this guy up as an all around quality bar for cleans squats deads and bench then when I get to a heavy enough weight purchase a true powerlifting bar as well

Looks good to me. Spendy fucker eh?

Im a little jealous of @RodgerThat. Not only are you part bear, part man, all powerlifter. But you have all the cool stuff. If we were kids I would be playing at your house everyday after school.

Im also jealous of @bhog set up.

So Im going to be living through you guys for a while. Ive had some medical issues pop up that may or may not be serious. Im trying not to leave the gym all together, but when I go ill definetly be taking it easy. No PRs or really heavy lifting for the time being. Im going to try to work with 50-70% if possible for the time being.

So when youre up at 80%+ get a rep for me.

Any serious lifter's nightmare. Hopefully It's not major and you're back to hitting PRs soon.

Theres never any good time for bad health, but Ive had an ongoing issue and one way or another it might finally get solved. So theres that. Im trying to stay positive. And Ive always wondered where I would be these days if I wasnt getting sick all the time. Maybe ill finally find out. Then its PR city.

I hope you get it taken care of, brother. I had my own issue I got taken care of last year and luckily it was before it could do any major damage. We're not exactly young guys anymore, so it's even more important to stay on top of this stuff. But yeah, stay positive, lift and eat what you can in the meantime and come back strong.

Things didnt work-out like I thought . I made it to 165lbs but my strength didnt follow . I probably lost too fast , too soon . I might still try & compete but not at 165lbs .

165lbs is pretty rough for maintaining strength, 181lbs would be a night and day difference. Of course the records would be higher, too.

That was the point , my state PL records for 165lbs I can max easily . When Im 185lbs . Now how do I drop 20lbs and keep my 185lb strength ?

If you can make it to 165 from 185 in a sensible manner I assume the nutrition side isn't your limiting fsctor but training is. Try to stay within 7-10lbs of your weight class for an easy cut right before a meet. Anymore than that and you'll risk a much more pronounced affect on performance at a meet.

Your training would have to be optimized also if you need to cut 20lbs. I'd opt for lower volume higher intensity if cutting. Timing your peaking cycle to coincide wih the meet will also yield pounds on the bar.

I need you as a strength coach Doc .lol
I thought I could do it alone but I do need a coach , I admit.

I'll be the first to admit that's a subject I don't have much experience with. How close are the weigh ins to the actual meet?

Like doc said though, a good peaking program seriously makes so much difference. I just did one successfully for the first time and I was shocked by how easily my third attempts were over the weekend.

Don't fuck with trying to drop 20 pds. OGH. My only regrets in powerlifting have come from trying to cut too much weight to set "records". The reality is there are so many records out there with all of the federations that they don't mean much.

Where you fit in the national rankings for your weight and age group is a better barometer but even at that dropping a lot weight at our age just for a meet doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Of course it took me a fully torn bicep tendon, caused by a huge weight drop, which required surgery to come to this conclusion.

At 185 you can easily make the 181's and if you decide to give powerlifting a real go once your training regimen has been adjusted to focus on strength your numbers will shoot up quickly.

Your right MP . At my age sometimes you dont want to lose too much weight or you might not get it back , at least in the same places ;) Im just gonna concentrate on powerlifting the next 6 months and see where that gets me ...

Almost forgot, got my knee sleeves ordered this morning. Slingshot Strong series, black in XL.

Picked up a pair of these as well. They arrived today. I've been using SBD's for the past year or so and they have worked well. I'm looking to see how I like the STrong sleeves vs them. Just from looking at them and trying them on, I can say that I like the stitching on the Strong sleeves much better along with the tag placement. Heavy squat day is Thursday night, I'll know more then.

I should have mine before the week is over. I have a little experience with wraps, but none with sleeves.
