This might be a dumb question, but are there 1lb weights out there? I noticed in a lot of PL logs people are changing their weights in lb increments but ive never seen them before.
Actually it is a good question. The answer is yes but they don't come in any standard Olympic sets. Those go down to 2 1/2 pds.

They sell what are called fractional plates in sets which have 2 each of 1/4's, 1/2's, 3/4's and 1's. I had my wife buy me a set for Christmas several years back because even though I wanted them I couldn't bring myself to spend $40 for a total of 5 pounds worth of weight plates.

They serve some value when running the Bulgarian method for sure. For everyday training I'm not sure they have much value.

They're called micro plates and yes they make them. I have a set that goes as small as 1/8lb to 2.5lbs

Interesting. I can see the value in those for setting 1RM.

And weights are crazy expensive. Im planning on starting a small home gym next year when I get back. Something small at first. Power rack and some weights and benches. Maybe a few dumbells...

9/4
paused bench 5x135, 5x185, 2x235, 1x285, 1x335, 1x383.5, 2x2 345
leg curls 2x10 90, 10x100, 9x100
pull throughs 12x120, 2x10 140
hip flexion 3x10 25

383.5 moved the fastest of any of my top singles this week. Had a little movement of my left foot when I was lowering the bar but other than that I was happy with pressing today. Deadlifts tomorrow which will be the only day each week I won't be benching.

@Masters Power I know you said you were at 197 currently at the start. Do you figure to put on weight during your training program? I just wonder bc I would imagine you would not want to have to cut weight before a meet. So do you just try and stay right around the 198lb mark?

For my last couple of meets I have started my training cycle a little over 200. I generally put on some weight early in the training cycle as I try to eat plenty. How far above 198 I get will determine how far out I have to start to tighten up my diet. I want to be no more than 205 at the beginning of the week of the meet. 3% can be lost relatively easy with water manipulation meet week particularly with a 24 hour weigh in. More than that can be done and I have done it in the past but much for me at least much more and I risk impacting my numbers on meet day.

9/5
Week 2 Lilly Deadlift Program
1 1/2 inch block pulls 3x315, 3x370, 5x3 420, 3x475
pull ups 3x10

Pulls felt pretty good but I was wearing down the last couple of sets. Last triple with 420 and the 475 triple were both touch and go reps.

9/6
paused bench 5x145, 4x195,2x245, 1x295, 1x345, 1x385, 2x2 350
face pulls 10x100, 2x10 110
ab pulldowns 15x110, 120 11x130
spread eagle situps 2x15 +25

385 moved pretty well today. Some things to work on but overall I'm happy with the first week of this meet training cycle.

Good lift MP. I gotta ask, whats a spread eagle sit up? Just a sit up with legs spread? Do you keep them straight or bent?

@Masters Power have you ever looked into this. An old time lifter at the gym was saying that he has it done and found a lot of temporary relief. It might help get you throuh a meet. http://www.synviscone.com/what-is-synvisc-one.aspx[/QUOTE

Thanks Rocco. I will ask my doctor. I have had many knee injections over the years but never with this medication. They all provide only temporary relief. My main problem is have very little cartilage left in the knees.

I will have to get them both injected before trying to do a full power meet, Orthopedic surgeons aren't real high on doing the injections so that you can then do parallel squats with heavy weights on your back.
