MP's PL Meet Training Log- 3rd Edition

The way this was explained to me is that it works like a temporary cartilage and cushions the knee joint. Problem is it does not last that long but would last long enough to prep and compete.
Orthopedic surgeons aren't real high on doing the injections so that you can then do parallel squats with heavy weights on your back.
That is because most doctors don't understand the felling of pushing your body past its perceived limitations. I had lost 100 lbs and the doctor said that was a step in the right direction. Next visit I was up 8 lbs. I explained that my BF% had dropped from 21% to 18%. His answer was 'You can try to justify it any way you want in your mind but weight gain is weight gain and that is not good'. I should mention he is about 5'8" - 140lbs

Your right most doctor's don't have a clue. I'm pretty lucky in that regard my general practitioner specializes in sports medicine and has been a team doctor for a couple of major universities and was a Division 1 college soccer player. He gets it and doesn't give me a lot of grief for powerlifting even after my bicep tendon tear which happened at a meet.

Do you have scar like this. They reconstructed the the bottom of my bicep and replaced the tendon with a graft from my hamstring. I have a matching scar on the back of my forearm where they had to drill the radius bone to make a new attachment point.

Looks very similar except mine runs across the arm just below the elbow instead of up the arm. my procedure used tied the tendon to a metal anchor of some sort. Was yours torn at the elbow or the shoulder?

You must have still had the tendon attached to your bicep and you must have had the repair done within a week? I could have had the same operation as you but I was misdiagnosed and waited too long. The tendon died from lack of blood flow The front of my upper arm looked like a forearm and the bicep was up in the delt area. From the inside of my elbow to about where my bicep peek had been turned black immediately. If anyone ever offers you the opportunity to have this injury I would definitely not recommend it.

385 moved pretty well today. Some things to work on but overall I'm happy with the first week of this meet training cycle.

nice lift, but if you don't practice a PL form for bench your ass will always come off the bench like yours did. you have the strength, just need the form. you need to arch your back more and plant your ass on the bench. IMHO

It was completely detached but I had it diagnosed about two weeks after it happened. I saw the surgeon that same day and had the surgery three days later because he said we were running out of time and if we waited much longer the chance of re tearing it more than tripled.

I was really lucky because I almost put it off longer but I was back in the gym after my meet and just didn't like how the arm felt when I was doing certain movements, especially bent rows.

You were lucky that the bicep did not fully retract up into the shoulder area. How long ago and what are your limitations? I had mine done 20 years ago and no problems except it does not straighten out all the way.

Thanks HF. I use a lot of leg drive so my ass coming off the bench is always a concern. I've competed in around 16 or 17 meets total and have been called for my ass coming up once. I have also beaten the start command once and the press command once. All of my other misses I just haven't made the press.

I would love to find more local meets that use a Forza bench. I hit 400 at my last meet the first time I benched on one and still had at least a half an inch of cushion under my ass driving every bid as hard as in the video using the same form.

It was real obvious to me after the meet why the Forza's are so popular with big benchers. Unless your form is really bad you can maximize leg drive without worrying about your ass leaving the bench.

Surgery was 2 1/2 years ago. No real problems or limitations to speak of although the tendon bothered me some leading up to my last meet. Nothing major but enough that I was worried about a re tear because I hadn't had any post surgery issues prior to that.

I would think with you guys moving the weight that you do, re-tearing would always be in the back of your mind.

The tear was in my left arm which is my over arm pulling. I would definitely be more worried about it if it was my under arm pulling.

I didn't like it when the pain started in the middle of the Bulgarian method benching before my last meet. When it didn't go away after a couple of weeks I had my doctor check it and he gave me the all clear. Well not exactly, he gave me the "It isn't torn but you probably strained it. Back off of the heavy pressing for a couple of weeks." I did skip benching that day but was back at the following day.

I don't know your past medical history. But I'm in the process of trying to find a general practitioner and I met with one last week and he told me I was overweight for my height. I shouldn't lift weights so much And I should be 170-180, and 195 at the max. So he is probably going off of their charts for healthy weight to maintain healthy heart function. I'm 6'2 220 @12-13% and fairly certain in better shape then most of his patients.

Any tips on finding/how you found your practitioner @Masters Power ?

Check to see if there are any places which specialize in sports medicine close by. The place I found has four doctors all of whom are general practitioners and all played a college sport and all have in the past or currently serve as team doctors for a major university nearby.

I stick with one particular guy when I can but I have ben seen by each of the others when he is out of town and none of them would have said a guy with your stats is overweight.

rear delt raises 3x10 50
ab pulldowns 15x110, 2x12 120

387 moved pretty fast yesterday. 390 was slower today but not bad. Good for around 400 right now. I'm concentrating on foot placement and making sure that they are planted and don't move once I unrack as I noticed in my videos last week I had some slight movement a few times.

First setback of the training cycle came today when I went to sign up for the meet. It is sold out. 64 lifter limit two months out and already sold out WTF??

There is a meet about 70 miles away the following weekend on November 7th and that is where I will head now. Will have to adjust my pulling schedule accordingly and make sure I don't peak too early benching.

Federation I've never lifted in before but that generally isn't a major issue for me doing push/pulls as there isn't a whole lot of judging needed for deads and bench is essentially whether the fed has a start command or you start at will.

paused bench 5x145, 4x195, 2x245, 1x295, 1x345, 1x391.5, 2x2 355
squats 15x135, 10x185, 8x225, 6x265
leg curls 3x10 100
GHR's 2x15

Concentrating on form today so didn't move up that much on the top single. It moved pretty well. Filmed it from the side and sent it to a friend on mine who refs in a different fed. She said good lift with no issues but also knows a national ref in the fed I'm going to lift in and send the video to him and he also said good lift. Now let's see if I can duplicate that form at 420-425.

Was hitting depth squatting with very little pain. Kept it very light as I didn't want to press it. 3 hours later my right knee is telling me I should have passed on squatting today.

Try box squats for now. They're much more forgiving on the knees MP. Nice benching!
