398 was very similar to 396.5 yesterday. Pause was about a half count longer than needed each day. Neither moved fast but they weren't grinds.
 
Bummer that the PL meet you had planed on competing in was full but at least there's another one a week later and i would think one week shouldn't throw off your timing to bad.

No problem my friend. I think that belt should be good for 8 to 10 years. $4 a year isn't bad.

That many miles cramped up in a car would def affect my workouts. Glad to see you hammered through with it anyway. Good job!

Thanks Doc. I'm not sure if it was the driving or several high stress work days this week but I knew at 305 I wasn't at my strongest. 355 moved quick enough that I knew 401 would be okay and it actually moved decently but that was it I was spent and the second rep of the second backoff double ended up being a grind.

I had planned on working up to 525 but I knew based on 475 that 525 wasn't in the cards today. 505 wasn't bad. I'm fairly quick off the floor but the deficit definitely takes some of the speed away as you get close to your max.

My dumb ass used to do them up 4". I didn't know what I didn't know. Congrats on these 400+ benches and that close grip!

If you can do them at 4" and hold any sort of form there isn't anything wrong with that. At that much of a deficit my form would fall apart and my lower back would be completely rounded.

Warm ups went well and 403 would have been a 1 pound PR but I decided I didn't want to have to think about 405 for the next couple of days so went for it today. It wasn't real fast but pause was legit and so was the press.

Thanks brother. I have been powerlifting a lot longer than you. You're still getting things dialed in. When it happens your ceiling will be much higher than mine. I'm hoping I can stretch to 450. I think you have the potential to get at or above 500.

Felt a real uncomfortable tug in my left pec while bringing 406 down to my chest and shut it down. Thought I tore my pec but no immediate bruising and minimal swelling. Good news is that it is in the upper portion of the pec middle inward so the shoulder and previously repaired bicep tendon aren't involved. Full range of motion but definitely some pain deep in the pec. I will give it a few days and see what happens.

How was the 405.5 day before? You icing?

405.5 wasn't bad. I tucked my feet a few inches more than I had been trying to make sure that my ass didn't sneak off the bench when the bar came off the chest and was a little off balance so the press didn't look real pretty but I was good for at least another 5.

I haven't iced or taken any NSAID's, trying to see where I'm at.
 
Thats good news that there isn't any bruising, take care of it like I'm sure you know how to, and hopefully a little rest and some TLC and you'll be good to go.
