MP's PL Meet Training Log- 3rd Edition

Damn good lift Masters, you moved that smooth and easy, great job and good to see the injury will not be an issue.

paused bench 5x165, 5x215, 2x265, 1x315, 1x365, 1x403, 2x2 365
Benched before getting on a plane for a three day conference and it was the highlight of the day. 403 was pretty smooth. Unfortunately, getting off the plane I experienced a lot of knee pain in my right knee.

Got to my hotel and immediately sat through a couple hours of meetings. Knee was really bad at this point and had me limping pretty good. When I got to my room figured out there was quite a bit of swelling both on the upper inside portion and directly above the knee as well.

Spend both Tuesday and Wednesday popping Ibuprofens while sitting through meetings. Did get some upper body machine and dumbbell work in both days at the hotel gym and got back late last night still limping with plenty of swelling.

Went to my doctor this afternoon and he said the swelling was from the ankle all the way up to above the knee and feared a blood clot so he immediately sent me to the hospital for an ultrasound. 2 1/2 hours later no blood clot so I still have no idea what the knee issue is.

When I got back from the hospital did the following
10/8
paused bench 5x155, 4x205, 2x255, 1x305, 1x355, 1x400
Strength was there as I was doing these without a lot of leg drive given the condition of the knee. Unfortunately, felt a little tug in the pec in the same spot as the previous issue. Very slight but given the spot I shut it down. Probably go with a 5 rep max scheme tomorrow. A month out from the meet. anything short of surgery and I will be competing as I am now officially pissed off with BS injuries.

That had to scare the shit outta you when the doc said it might be a blood clot, damn!!!
And like a true iron warrior, you go home from the hospital and workout lol! The things we will do for progress.
Also i love that belt you recommended i have never used a real PL belt before, i always just used a 15$ velcro belt from sports authority, but it blew up when i was squatting, thats two that ive had do that. But no way this one blows up also the support i feel makes me feel stronger, added 30lbs to my heavy set since getting it. Im stoked[emoji4]

Thanks Mr. B. I didn't like to hear blood clot and didn't like the look on his face or the fact that he said we are going to call over to the hospital, you need to have an ultrasound done today.

Glad the belt is working out for you. I've had a similar one for going on three years now and it is still in good shape.

Sorry to hear about the BS injuries but happy to hear you're pissed. You're a month out. Now is the time that your hunger is going to drive you. You've been training for this MP. You got this

Thanks Doc. I will figure out a way to deal with the pec issue but need the knee to at least get to the point where it is functional. Felt a little better today but still have a ways to go before I will be able to pull.

10/9
paused bench 5x165, 5x215, 5x265, 5x315, 5x335
pull throughs 12x120, 11x130, 2x10 140
ab pulldowns 15x110, 12x120, 9x130
spread eagle situps 2x20 +25

Felt a slight pull in the pec on the last couple at 335. Based on the last two days clearly there is still a slight issue that I'm going to have to work around in hopes of getting to the meet somewhat healthy.

Sorry you're not a 100% right now and so close to the meet but use that frustration as motivation to focus on training smart and performing well at the meet. You can do it.

Damn you made that 395 bench look easy, STRONG!. .sorry bout the BS injuries, like everybody already stated, once a warrior always a warrior. ..

Thanks my friend. The pec injury will be worked around and I will hit a meet PR over 400 benching, how much over will depend on how hard I'm able to push it between now and meet day. Won't know on deads until I get the knee issue under control.

Thanks for checking in BP. Anyone who has competed in powerlifting for any length of time and hits decent numbers has had to deal with injuries. Just part of the game.

10/10
close grip bench 5x165, 5x215, 2x265, 1x315, 1x345, 1x375 PR
face pulls 10x100, 10x110, 10x120
GHR's 2x15

10/11
medium grip bench 5x165, 5x215, 2x265, 1x315, 1x365, 1x380, 2x2 335
dips 2x15 +45, 12x +90
tate presses 3x10 40
bb curls 12x65, 12x85, 10x105, 8x115

I went for a PR close gripping yesterday. Rep was solid and no issue with the pec but my knee locked up as I was pressing which made lockout tough with no leg drive but I got it.

Moved my grip out about one inch on each side today and worked up to 380. Lockout again was a bit slow but I had moved my feet forward some today to avoid any issues with the right knee and as a consequence used very little leg drive. No pec issues either day this weekend.
