MP's PL Meet Training Log- 3rd Edition

I don't know your past medical history. But I'm in the process of trying to find a general practitioner and I met with one last week and he told me I was overweight for my height. I shouldn't lift weights so much And I should be 170-180, and 195 at the max. So he is probably going off of their charts for healthy weight to maintain healthy heart function. I'm 6'2 220 @12-13% and fairly certain in better shape then most of his patients.

Any tips on finding/how you found your practitioner @Masters Power ?

6'2", 220 @ 12-13% BF?? Goddamn you're fat! :D

9/10
paused bench 5x145, 4x195, 2x245, 1x295, 1x345, 1x391.5, 2x2 355
squats 15x135, 10x185, 8x225, 6x265
leg curls 3x10 100
GHR's 2x15

Concentrating on form today so didn't move up that much on the top single. It moved pretty well. Filmed it from the side and sent it to a friend on mine who refs in a different fed. She said good lift with no issues but also knows a national ref in the fed I'm going to lift in and send the video to him and he also said good lift. Now let's see if I can duplicate that form at 420-425.

Was hitting depth squatting with very little pain. Kept it very light as I didn't want to press it. 3 hours later my right knee is telling me I should have passed on squatting today.

Nice to know some fed judges for feedback. A friend of mine who competes trains with a judge from his fed. He has no doubt about his lifts going into a meet.

I think even more so if you are doing a full meet as there is so much variation amongst feds on judging squats. I've never not got credit for a deadlift which I locked out so no issues there. I do feel that a national ref from the fed I will be competing in looked at it.

No way you can hit your max numbers if you are worried about judging.

That's why I sink my squats. No way in hell am I being red lighted for depth, ever lol

A guy I lifted with several years ago and got to know a little bit named Dan Kyser is the most impressive I've ever seen in terms of squat depth for a major lifter. Goes about three inches below parallel and hit 770 at 220 last year. Does he leave weight on the platform, probably but it is damn impressive to watch.

Also pulled 770. Totaled 1950 which was third in the nation at 220 behind guys named Duffin and Lilliebridge. Most impressive PL'er that no one has ever heard of, he doesn't even have any sponsors.

9/11
paused bench 5x145, 4x195, 2x245, 1x295, 1x345, 1x393, 2x2 355
pull throughs 3x10 140
hip flexion 3x10 30

Brought the bar down a little too high on my chest at 393 which leaves my elbows a little lower and lengthens the ROM making the press a bit tougher. Not as fast as the other top singles this week but not bad.

I've noticed in your vids you wear wrist wraps...anything special?? My wrist have been "popping" & "cracking" now that I can handle more weight and its causing some pain. Thanks

Dog, nothing special at all. They are actually an old pair of APT Pro Gear wraps that I think was a free throw in for spending a certain amount. I actually only wore wrist wraps for a couple of reps my entire last meet training cycle and didn't feel comfortable using them on meet day so I went without.

I thought about it a little before this training cycle started and decided since I will be pressing at or above 400 around 50 times over the next couple months I probably should use wraps on the top single each day.

I have a couple of other sets of "stronger" and longer wrist wraps but I don't think I need them. Actually both of those sets of wraps are virtually new and came from EliteFTS. If you want I will mail you a set.

Week 3 Lilly Deadlift Program
speed deads 10x1 365, 1x395, 1x420
pull ups 3x10

Not a huge fan of speed work but that is what the program called for and it is probably a good thing as I was a little run down this morning and a hard pulling session would have likely taken a big toll on me.
That was ten reps of each weight or a set of 10 and then one and one?

I appreciate the offer MP and I'll take a look 'em on EliteFTS. But, the more I've thought about it the more I think it would be better to keep stretching and building strength in my wrist. My wrist are small for my size. I saw this video and started doing this stretch a couple days ago....just need to give it some more time.

paused bench 5x145,4x195, 2x245,1x295, 1x345, 1x395, 2x2 355
face pulls 12x90, 100, 110
ab pulldowns 15x110, 12x120, 10x130

395 didn't move real quick but it was a steady press. Getting my form dialed in fairly well. Close grips tomorrow. On Tuesday all of the warm up sets will move up 10 pounds.

9/14
close grip bench 5x185, 5x235, 2x285, 1x335, 1x370 PR
dips 15x +45, 13,12x +90
tate presses 3x10 45
bb curls 12x 85, 10x105, 8x125

Think I was good for about another 10 pds. on the close grip.

On another note my 79-year dad asked if I had some 10 pound Olympic plates I could bring over. He stopped working out about 4 years ago although he is still active. Walks the dog a couple of miles each day, rides his bike a lot at their winter home and water skis once a day every other week during the summer.

He and my mom came and watched me at a meet for the first time in June. Turns out he started back working out after that. Bench, row, dumbbell ohp, curls and chin ups. He has worked his way back up to 6x145 benching at 162 pounds. Pretty darn solid.

Almost 80 and water skiing? Awesome!

Impressive numbers indeed! Pretty cool that you inspired him to start hitting the weights again.

My grandfather is 94 and still works (everyday all day) at the business he created decades ago. He's smart, unrelenting, and never complains, ever- he's a fucking machine and I love that about him.

Almost forgot: Congrats on the PR :)

94 and still working is awesome because you know he is doing it because he loves it.

Slalom skis no less and drags his foot when getting out of the water. I haven't done that since I got above 125 pounds. Too tough to keep my balance .

Your dad is a G @Masters Power !!!!

Thanks brother. I got real lucky in the parents department. Mom volunteered in various organizations and has helped people all of her adult life. Diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at 74. Went through all of the treatments then had surgery and the rest of the treatments. Never complained at ang stage. Declared cancer free earlier this year at 77.

Top singles are getting a bit slower each day but no grinding yet. Good for around 405 right now.
