It kinda is about people sacrificing their health for looks - their mental health and sometimes their physical health. That's what MD is.I really thought this would focus on people sacrificing their health for looks. I get why people would consider that a problem but it seems like it was all about guys wanting to get bigger. You keep moving the goal post it said, well no shit. I keep trying to get more money too, if I'm getting a bj I'll see if I can get deep throat. It doesn't seem like guys are nearly as into size as they use to be either, being shredded seems to be as important to most guys now.
The response is fuckin interesting isn't it?Sure do have it. I would say the massively over-the-top defensive postings here are a huge tell for those claiming they don't.
Nice link to what I am going to say in part 2, thanks this is one of the ways bodybuilders say to manage MD. remember that there is more to you than your physiqueBut getting back to this topic, basically took self development away from the gym to not obsess over it as bad. Without any other accomplishments in life chances are you just won't break away from it.
Couldn't agree more. By drawing attention to MD I'm not trying to belittle what bodybuilders have told me about how much bodybuilding improved their lives, and helped them develop as a person (see my first paper on here about whether bodybuilding is good or bad for mental health), I just want to get more of a conversation going on about MD as I think there's a lot of guys suffering out there who feel pretty alone in their sufferingIt doesn't always work in the order of character development developing the physique, sometimes the physique can help develop the character too!
Yep, there is a tendency to pathologise bodybuilding (and other aspects of everyday life), but we can't let us stop trying to prevent the suffering. I know we are on the same page with this MillardThere is a fair amount of criticism of the American Psychiatric Association for the tendency to seemingly psychopathologize everything. The more "disorders" that can be diagnosed, the more money they can bill insurance for.
And some notable psychiatrists seem like they want to diagnose all bodybuilders with muscle dysmorphia.
This is me then. For all my education, accomplishments, capabilities, experience (such as they are) the most return/reward ALWAYS comes from being jacked, in all circles. That's preference. It's very normal to engage in behavior that is socially-rewarded. That's not bigorexia.

To accommodate your inquiry, i (anyone) would have to provide some sort if resume, profession, social circle and activities, and even locale would give some insight.would like to know in details this

This is not the place for specifics, my friend. No can do.
Have a good afternoon.
Who on earth are you talking to here?do you wanna exploit insurance by addind “diseases” ? You motherfucker, respect... good move... fuck you anyway
Who on earth are you talking to here?
It sure as hell isn't the people behind this research (which clearly you didn't absorb at all).
Good lord.

^This from the guy telling others to mind their own while dropping page long unintelligible screeds.Anyway you clearly suffer of Pissoffrexia and you should be taken care of properly..
Sounds like you aren't suffering the way some guys do. I wonder if some people just aren't cut out for bodybuilding and are just particularly susceptible to having it get out of hand? I would like to do future research looking at how some people seem to get through bodybuilding pretty unscathed mental health wise, whereas others really lose their shitAs long as I'm able to keep hitting the weights I'll be a happy man. I prefer the golden era look so I'm not overly concerned about being "Huge".
I'm 6'2", 225lbs around 15%bf and I'll be super happy to hit 8%bf around the same weight and then just work on maturing the muscles while working on symmetry into my 50s/60s and beyond.
I've seen the lengthy list of guys who've died WAY TOO early and I don't want to be on that fucking list no way man. Put me on the list with Pearl, Zane, Robinson, Park, Scott, Columbu and so on.
Columbo died, Arnold and ferrigno are still alive. But Lou did become a mass monster in the mid 90s, so genetics? As long as I'm able to keep hitting the weights I'll be a happy man. I prefer the golden era look so I'm not overly concerned about being "Huge".

There are lots of functioning alcoholics and I've met a couple of functioning crackheads.Sounds like you aren't suffering the way some guys do. What is the definition of bigorexia? Are you saying they always see themselves as small or that they are never happy with how big they get?
