Odie's First Log

Yeah you'll definitely want to jump on the knee wrapping train asap if you start to squat and want to increase it for the meet!
Power Belly gear has my favorite knee wraps.
And Nike Romaleos are the only way to go if you're serious about squatting!
If you just practice your squat and deadlift like you do your bench you'll see a huge improvement!
My cousin has competed in powerlifting for the last 4ish years...I think he's one of the top 10 for his 220 weight class and top 15 now for the 242 weight class. He pulls 813 dead lift 740 squat and 460 bench. So you will kill it in bench but you definitely gotta work on the other two! :D

Fuck I don't stand a chance going up against someone with numbers like that. Well like I mentioned I'm only doing the bench in this one. Tell your cousin to fuck off.lol

Thanks for all the kind words and support fellas. Also thanks for not calling me Mentzer. Im Odie that is all. ;)

Nah Im really not that cocky. I really do appreciate all the kind words and wished I worked a job where I could get a coach and have a routine but I can't. Not with what I do for a living. Maybe one day soon though, Im working on a fews things that will keep me from having to travel for work

In powerlifting your biggest competition is yourself, not the guy next to you. Sure it's fun to get first in your class and division but the real objective is to set yourself some PRs across the board. At my meet there was a guy who almost failed his opening bench attempt at 135lbs. Nobody laughed at him, nobody judged him. The guy went 2/3 on bench and walked away with his head high bc his second attempt was a PR. Point blank, don't compare yourself to the other competitors. You'll handicap yourself before you even do your first lift. Compare yourself that day to yourself the weeks and months prior. Did you set PRs? Did you give it your all? Did you lift through pain and adversity? If you can answer yes then it will be a good day in my book and you'll leave knowing you kicked ass.

Also consider which class you want to be in. Raw modern or raw classic. Modern allows knee wraps and sleeves whereas classic doesn't. If you want to use sleeves that's fine and they'll help add a few pounds to your squat. If you want to use wraps, they'll add more than a few pounds to your squat but you need to train in them for at least a few months before a competitor bc they dynamics, leverages, and mechanics of your squat will change. If you want to go classic and not use any knee gear it's fine as well. I went raw classic at my meet so no knee support allowed.

About the coaching, idk how far you want to go with this sport but a good coach is invaluable. You don't need one but having one will help out in ways you couldn't even imagine. I understand you got a crazy schedule with work and other commitments but if you are open to online coaching shoot me a PM. I will give you my coaches info and you can talk with him about your plans, concerns, expectations, etc. He is a competitor himself and has coached others to success as well. One of his clients added over 100lbs to his total in 6months with some severe back issues. Food for thought brother Odie

I'm so thankful to have this back in my life

It really does but I just don't see myself living in the woods owning a park at 33. Yeah I said OWNING, folks want to give it to me and I would pay them a note. It's a slice of paradise and I could train as much as I want but im not ready for it yet. If yAll knew what I do for a living yAll would understand why I'm still doing it.

Fair enough, I wouldn't have been then either. At 43... I'd be all over it

My legs are gonna get stronger if it kills me. Honestly I never train them hard because when I work out in the field it involves 100s of stairs. Y'all have seen some of the work pics I've posted, I'm 300 feet off the ground. Now that I'm training them I feel that my numbers will get there eventually.

Now excuse me while I lay down and die. I couldn't even hold my foot on the gas pedal on the way home. Legs are shakey as fuck

Killin it Odie. Here is a song for you bro. I love this whole album. It just made me think of you. If you like heavy metal you should check them out if you don't already know about them. Especially when Disturbed teams up with System of a Down for that killer track called Out of Line. Enjoy

Ok y'all have heard me mention numerous times that this cycle doesn't look good on me. Even though Im up 16 lbs ( well that was an afternoon weigh in ) in 37 days ( 5.25 weeks), I look smaller because all my fullness and water weight is gone. The gym scale said I was 8% bf today. I don't trust that thing, what do yall think?

Fina is a hell of a drug. When you sweat all day everyday this is what you get.
