Oregon county bans all marriage

that's kinda funny ... it makes sense if they just don't wanna deal with it for the time being. may cause hostilities by straight people against gay people though.

Those oregon folks are a bit different.....however, with property values as they are up there and the standard of living being a bit better than this madness that they call southern california.....I'm inclined to think about moving that way sometime soon. Anybody know what the state sales and income tax picture looks like up there?

Hell, saving 7.75% is enough to get me to go.

On a serious note, I heard residents of Galveston, TX do not pay FICA (social security).....anybody know if that is true??? Texas doesnt have income tax either if I am not mistaken.......it is really starting to seem like time to give california (and all of its bullshit) the finger.

Hogg, This is somewhat true. Texas does have to pay a Federal Income tax, we just don't have a state income tax. I think our sales tax is currently about 7.8%.

The galveston deal is true, but they have created their own type of Social Security. Try this link and see if it helps.

Florida

I was told that florida doesnt have a state sales tax.. Its my understanding that you have to pay a one time fee to the state when you move in,, I believe it is for motor vehicles only.... does anyone know if this is correct.

Evidently nevada does not have state income tax either....

1 in 8 americans lives in california....it is either the 5th or 8th largest economy in the world (forgot which). We pay some of the highest taxes in the country and the state is in a deficit. All they do is tax, tax, and tax some more around here. Workmen's comp is ridiculous, healthcare is ridiculous, traffic is ridiculous, we have drastic seperations between rich and poor all within a 10 mile radius... .....and we put up with all of this for a mediterranean climate. Something seems highly flawed here.

How are they fucked up? If you pay 2% in property taxes on a $ 500K house, its 10 grand. If your house appreciates for no real reason as they do out here and your house is suddenly worth $ 1MM, they will hit you for $ 20K. I dont see how they can raise them....there are people who can barely afford their mortgage let alone the property taxes...

by the way, think about that for a second, property values went through the stratosphere which thus caused a surge in property taxes, incomes have grown as well resulting in a greater in-flow of income tax, nobody knows where the lottery is going and freeways out here are built as toll roads and held by private entities thus they are not paid out of tax dollars...so tell me where all the money is going??? Seems to me, they ran short even though they have had a windfall of taxes in recent years.

in jersey 20k would be a steal for a house worth a mil, property taxes pays everything, state doesnt make hardly anything off pay roll, thats all fed, but you have options, if you have no kids, you dont live in a town with a good school system, some town dont have schools, property taxes will be much lower, your town's services will be a direct result as to how high the property taxes are, if you want to get your kids in a good school, the town is gonna have high property taxes, lottery will never pay that much, this is a problem in cali as far as i know, one failure of direct democracy so far, govt never woulda done this, either party, thier working on repealing it, i dont know the process to overturn a prop, prolly difficult, arnold has warren buffet advising on econmic issues for cali, buffet's biggest reccomandation is to remove restrictions on property taxes, there really isnt another place to generate so much money, i agree with you property taxes would suck if they did, but they do in other congested areas, nj, ny , only way to pay for all the services needed
