Perrin Aybara's Journey to an Elite Powerlifting Total

I'm working back up to doing HIIT again soon. My endurance has taken a big hit since I've been off work. Apparently that construction job was keeping me pretty fit even without cardio. I'm debating whether or not to bring my bicycle over to my girlfriend's so I can just ride rather than drive 15 minutes each way to the gym for cardio only. It being almost winter and all.

Rowing machine is an unbelievable conditioning machine... I never seem to adapt to it, kicks my ass every time.

My gym has those Concept 2 rowing machines, and I can't seem to get them either. But they do work!

I'd love to have access to one. Never seen one in real life.

Really? It's a cheap addition to most gyms, I'm surprised yours doesn't have it.

You can get a lot of bang for your buck on them... I always start the first few rows thinking, "ah, this isn't so bad."

Then at about 2.5 minutes it's already kicking my ass. 5 minutes and death is slowly creeping in. It's hard for me to find a medium intensity on them though, I always end up going balls to the wall.

They have those battle rope things. I've thought about alternating upper and lower body cardio depending on what lifts I'm performing the next day.

Oh my bad, and if there's lots of hills that's a good challenge too.

It's fairly flat around here. A guy on a bike did get killed right down the road a couple months ago though. Threat of potential death in the freezing cold would add a certain intensity to it.

Battle ropes are good too, and I do them once a week as my gym has 3 battle rope stations.

Here's the cardio/conditioning from the Juggernaut Method:

I would do it but my gym just isn't really equipped for it... There's another gym in the area I might go check out that would be a lot better setup for this stuff. It's more of a CrossFit-esque place, people give you programming and coach you through a sesh... Not looking for any of that so I need to see if they allow open gym for the cool kids like me.

Go for it, and that sure looks like some crazy volume there though. There's a crossfit gym near me as well, and went there on a 3-day pass. Unreal!

Yeah, my gym doesn't have any of that except kettlebells and a pull up bar. Do you think you could adapt and still perform well on the big three doing that on your off days?

Those conditioning days are built into the Juggernaut strongman programming, you do these in between the lifting days. I think you could adapt just fine although, it's probably not as necessary for powerlifting. A day or two of it would be good though probably.

I like being a little more conditioned. Just like being leaner it's not necessary, but I still prefer it. Makes you a more well rounded human.

I agree. I'm working on it now myself. I ignored conditioning for a long time but I underestimated it's importance.

Being leaner makes you more efficient, IMO.
The you'll be able to fit straight thru doors too you big mofo.

I think skipping rope is a good conditioning builder too... That shit is so hard to do, at least for me. There's a lot of technique to it that I haven't gotten down yet. I'm awkward as fuck trying to do it, stand back.

I saw a heavier set guy in the gym the other week, never saw him there before. He pulls a rope out of his bag and I think, "oh boy, someone worse than me??"

That fucker proceeds to do full boxing style rope drills... single leg, double swing, the whole thing. Bastard.

Why not learn from that new guy at the gym? Have you approached him yet to show you how to make those skip rope moves?

Speed squats with bands 320lbs + ~60lbs in bands for 15x2

Deficit sumo deadlift paused 1-2" off the floor 405lbs for 5x3

Comp bench 275x2, 315x2, 335x2 @9, 285x2, 285x2, 285x2, 285x2, 285x15 with slingshot

Reverse band squats with ?lbs of band tension 410x3, 460x3, 500x3, 550x1
