Perrin Aybara's Journey to an Elite Powerlifting Total

Bench moved okay, not great. Squat was absolute trash, was hitting RPE 9.5-10 on 400x2. I've regressed big time on squat. Got very little sleep this week. I'm actually sleeping okay, just been long hours at work and with the drive there's just not enough hours in the day.

I’m pretty sure anyone in the freight/ transportation industry is overwhelmed these days. At least you don’t have a meet comin up. Any word on the gyms re opening there

Yeah, it was crazy this last week. I can't cut corners on time from anything but sleep. Got all meals prepped for the entire week, clothes ready to go, etc.

At least two local towns are disregarding the extended lockdown starting tomorrow. Haven't heard anything about my gym yet.

Have you tried reaching out to the gym owner?

No. I could've been going with the owner's nephew the whole time. He's got a key and invited me, it's just with my new schedule it wouldn't work. I'm okay with my home setup for now.
Ahh gotcha. Changing work schedules really can upend the whole training applecart not just the lockdowns because of the pandemic.

Felt great today. Went to bed at 5am and woke up at 2pm. Really needed that rest. Work has been crazy the last two weeks and I've been missing a lot of sleep. Was really feeling like total shit.

Was using cinderblocks to block pull and broke them. Did rack pulls last time and this time and now I've bent my junk bar pretty significantly. Hopefully not too bad to bench with.

Getting used to the Rocky style training I see, LOL.

That sleep must have felt so damn good!

Getting used to sleeping during the day?

Yes, I'm pretty much sleeping normally now. We've just been so busy at work the last two weeks I've not had enough time to get enough sleep. The two hours total commute time is killer when work days run long.

I'm leaving home for work at 5:30pm, on good days I'm getting home by 6am, long days 7-8am. Say 30 minutes to take a shower, clean out my lunchbox, throw some oatmeal in the crock pot, and get to bed. Training days I'm getting up at 2pm, a little over an hour to eat breakfast and drink coffee, two hours to lift, 15 minutes to get dressed and pack my lunch, then leave. Non training days get up at 4pm, same time to eat breakfast, get dressed and leave for work by 5:30pm.

I don't think I could manage time much better. If I'm working ten hour days it works out about perfect to get about 7 1/2 hours sleep if I'm lifting that day. Or if I'm working later on a non training day I can still get about enough sleep. On the weekends I'm going to sleep between 5-6am and getting up when I feel like it, so usually 2-3pm.

Once I'm living closer it'll be all good. I don't do well on lack of sleep. I need 7-8 hours to function. One six hour night I can handle, but multiple in a row hurt me. Looking at my Fitbit trends my resting heart rate goes up significantly when my sleep goes down.

But yeah, I've adapted really well. I was worried, but wasn't too bad getting used to.

I did 30 minutes of stationary bicycle at my gym earlier. Not the nephew of the owner I mentioned that invited me awhile back, but his brother invited me to go. He also works nights as a nurse, so our schedules are more suitable. He's got a key, so I'll probably go whatever days our workout time lines up.

Just finished up my meal prepping for the week. It's become my Sunday night ritual since I'm up alone. It takes 2+ hours anyway. I'm still up, so here's some pics.

Made up some protein bars for this week. Hadn't made them in awhile.

IMG-20200504-WA0002.jpeg

Got some Kashi cereal for between meals. Decent protein in it. Threw in these wheat crackers last week to up carbs slightly till I figure out something better.

IMG-20200504-WA0004.jpeg

Vegetables for every meal besides breakfast. Broccoli, carrots, and tomatoes bagged up ready to go.

IMG-20200504-WA0006.jpeg

Week's worth of protein shakes in empty water bottles for easy disposal at work. One between breakfast and lunch, and one between lunch and dinner. Also got my post workout shake ready for tomorrow. The same except half cherry juice.

Supplements for the week ready to go. Fish oil, magnesium, vitamin D, etc.

Last couple weeks did sausage, but this week made up some turkey bacon. In the mornings I'll throw it on a skillet with a couple eggs, add cheese, ghost pepper salsa, then put it on a large wrap. I put steel cut oats in the crock pot before bed to have with it. Fresh strawberries and bananas in the oats.

Just make up a couple days of sandwiches for lunch at a time. They tend to start soaking through the wrap after a couple days.

My girlfriend will cook me up a big batch of chili tomorrow, heavy on the beef. I'll heat that up each day before work and put it in my thermos for dinner each night.

During the work week I'm eating four out of five meals while I'm driving, so that's a factor in food choices. With the long hours plus long commute having everything ready to go is a must.

Looks good, could you post up your recipe?

I actually had an old recipe I was gonna try a different way and forgot some of the ingredients I'd need. I totally winged it on those.

Roughly 8-10oz cream cheese
1-2 tablespoons coconut oil
Half jar of peanut butter

Put in a bowl and microwaved three rounds of 30 seconds stirring between. Then put in a huge bowl.

Add 8 scoops of vanilla protein powder
1/4 cup coconut flour
3-4 egg whites

Mix by putting on gloves and kneading it. Then shape and refrigerate.

What I'd planned was some fruity protein flavor and no peanut butter, something like a lemon square. Forgot to pick up the protein though.

Do you have the same pain from squats as with Sumo?

Seems like the issues would be pretty similar abs would definitely affect your squat

No, it actually never really hurt much doing squats this last time I hurt my hip. It was just like the weight felt crushing every squat session after it happened. Like I just had no power to drive the weight up.

That’s sweet. Sucks that we can’t all be back in the gym. They need to let this quarantine shit die. It’s fucking up everything and it’s not going to rebound like they say.
