Perrin Aybara's Journey to an Elite Powerlifting Total

Is your food consistent? Sleep? Water? Recovery? I have to be in a very solid routine to make good progress and even then have bad days. Don’t sweat it man. Sheiko is a bitch too. Just call it accumulating fatigue

Hadn't weighed myself lately and apparently I'm down about 5lbs from 210ish to 205ish. That explains the pretty drastic bench and squat strength loss. From past experience getting below 210lbs is my breaking point on bench.

I'm finding being awake at night now I'm never hungry. I've been eating the same five meals every day for the last month without fail, but I think I've underestimated my dinner. Before I'd eat a huge dinner with my girlfriend every night that I didn't track calories unless I was cutting. Now I'm packing a dinner I'm eating at work and I guess it's just not as much. Will readjust next week with added calories.

Overall my diet is better now. I spend about two hours Sunday night prepping five meals for every day including servings of vegetables. I did cut back a little on carbs because I read blood sugar would be increased working nights, but now I'm starting to think that's just because the average person has a shit diet and they smash snack cakes all night and wash it down with soda. Keep meaning to check mine and I'm so rushed I forget like I've been forgetting to weigh.

Makes a lot of sense.

I get most of my cals when I'm eating dinner with my wife.
All I'd have to do if I wanted to get shredded, would be cutting that meal out

You're right about the blood sugar.
Most guys crush sweets on night shifts, since you're so tired and nothing is around

Sleep is getting better. I track it with a Fitbit and last week was actually a tie for an all time weekly sleep PR since I got it in December. This week sucked for some reason though.

If I'm getting 7+ hours a night I feel great, less than that and I really struggle to get through the day feeling awful. That's when I get sick and injured more and just overall feel unwell. I've noticed my resting heart rate is significantly higher when I'm sleep deprived.

Squat was still tough today, but I got through all sets. Took some naproxen pwo and my hip felt better. Bench just added 30lbs and used my slingshot since no chains here. Will be adding more food next week and starting that blast as planned next week.

After the 1g test thread I'm thinking about just doing that for something different.

Have you ever tried gateway briefs? I've heard they're really nice for squatting with manageable hip pain. Kind of like a knee sleeve for your hips.

You don’t do this? What kind of powerlifter are you?

I had a good cheat meal last night to offset the weight loss. Half pound burger, half box of mac and cheese, and a can of green beans. Some kind of Ben and Jerry's cookie dough ice cream with banana walnut chocolate chip cookies.

Actually only had one soda since 2011. A couple years ago had a nasty stomach virus and couldn't keep anything down and tried a Sprite. I puked it up, so maybe didn't even count.

A good problem to have , a “fast metabolism “. Never been the lean mean fighting machine type. Always been able to put on muscle and improve strength but I can’t say I look great with a shirt off unless I cut cals very low and do a ton of cardio. Myself I get away with eating a pretty decent amount of food and not getting fat so long as it’s mostly clean. I can’t do soda unless it’s a mixer with liquor.

Everything moved pretty well today. No chains, so just added 20-25lbs on the deadlift and pulled straight weight. Thought about standing on bands, but thought they might get torn up on concrete. Was pouring rain through most of the workout and used straps because everything was soaked.
