Setting up a gym at my home

Guys... I'm from the US but live over here in Hyderabad, India (and will for quite a while) and the gym's are not what I'm used to, not to mention the prices are nearly double and you get half the room and less than half the equipment of a decently supplied gym.

I have plenty of room in my house and am going to start setting up my own gym. Can anyone point me in the right direction of an international source of quality fitness gear (squat racks, Olympic BB sets, DB's, benches, etc.) Preferably a source closer to India, cuz I"m not trying to pay an arm and a leg to get the equipment shipped over from the US.

To give u an example of what Im dealing with, I checked out a fitness suppler and the price for a 400lb Olympic BB set was about $450 US.. And no.. it wasnt the nice pretty chrome shiny stuff, Im just looking for the basics. To me weight is weight, hell, worse comes to worse, I'll tie rocks to a freakin stick! LOL

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

You would come out cheaper considering the shipping...to have someone make the suff for you over there. except for the plates, I would just get a powerrack made to start and just deal with the price of the ber set. Next invest in a set of the power block dumbbells that goto 120's. Take up less space and only have to move or ship 240lbs. It will be high but cheaper that the individual db's.

Thanks!! Good Idea! I know I've seen blueprints for building basic gym equipment before somewhere.. Would someone be able to point me in the right direction??

Thanks

depending on your mechanical aptitude i would say find a source of lumber or find blueprints and a good welder
everything is pretty simple except a lat pulldown or cable crossover machine

I found a great welder.. now all I need is the blueprints.. Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction?
