The OFFICIAL OFFICIAL NFL Smack Talk Thread

Instead of Europe, the NFL should have an exhibition game on Manning's forehead :D

There has been a steady decline in QB play in recent years and as a Pat's fan, I miss guys like Manning. Very polished, great mind for the game, ability to lead. Unreal in so many ways. That made for some wicked good games.
Peyton was the consummate quarterback. Exactly what a pocket QB should look like. From his physical stats to his skills. What god would generate in a character animation screen of Madden. The complex audible game at the line of scrimmage changed the game. Complete mastery of the position. He was the best of all time in my humble opinion. Ahead of Favre(my favorite all time). But Favre especially followed by Manning and Brady are the last of the "old era" guys and Favre stands alone of these 2 in that category. Even tho their careers intertwined a lil. And by that i mean the NFL they, especially Favre, played in is very different than that of todays. There should be a huge asterisk noted as QB continue now and in to the future as they break records at a phenominal pace. This new offensive minded NFL is soft and weak and is in complete favor of the offensive side of the ball. Especially QBs. Favre got MURDERED and set his records. Watch what happens next time some one touches your favorite QB and the fines and penalties levied. Favre was the Ironman and that cannot be overstated what that meant when he set his records

Not sure I've even ever heard of Favre before. Name doesn't ring a bell

Respect the hell out of Payton, and Favre was my favorite QB to watch hands down. Dude was like a kid out there making plays he drew up in the dirt. Not to mention the strongest arm I've ever seen, a serious gunslinger in every sense of the word.

That being said, sorry guys, none of them have anything on Brady. He's the GOAT and to even argue that at this point is kind of embarrassing and just laughable. Say what you want, be a fan of anyone you want, but Brady is the best to ever do it

I enjoy the GOAT talk very much. I prefer GOAT(S) plural because that more accurate. Brady is certainly in the GOATS category but not sole owner of the title. His 6 rings seems to be the explain all for any pro Brady fan out there. That is simply inaccurate. Hes been a part of the NE machine that will go down as the most dominant nfl franchise of all time. Thats clear but individual performance has always been the standard and its far to convoluted to slap a tag like that on 1 man. Hes not the most accurate. That belongs to Rodgers far and away. Rodgers is the ONLY qb to throw 300 td with LESS than 100 ints in NFL history. That statistically gives him the highest qb rating in history. He doesnt run(not that its required) he is a pocket passer after all. That would go to Russ Wilson with Rodgers tailing him. Brady doesnt extend plays, doesnt scramble and doesnt do well in improvisation. He does well with great game planning. Now who do you suppose game plans? Coach B...

Hes not even statistically number 1 in his own generation. Peyton was his contemporary and he did all Brady did, in 3 yrs LESS time. And Brees is still in the lead by a wide margin and is 2 yrs YOUNGER. Again another contemporary.

There is nothing statistically measurable that makes him the best even among his class. Hell even Brady said out of his own mouth "Rodgers is so much more talented than i am". Which takes alot of guts but lets be honest we all can see that.

So if 6 rings is the same old answer, that cup has more holes it wont hold water. He has the very best coach to ever do it and has been extremely fortunate the way so many events have ended up over his career. The perfect storm of the division their in to rule changes to a coach that is just on another lvl. When have you EVER seen the Patriots show up unprepared? Never happened. But i suppose its never a chance for the media to miss to an opportunity to praise Brady. Even for shit that had nothing to do with him. Not the least of which was his most recent SB appearance sporting 262 yrds and 1 INT and 0 TDs.

OH, they lament

I remember Warren Sapp sacking Favre and talking shit. Favre stood up and head butted him. I always liked Favre.

You saw the Edelman hot tub story? Classic.

It's a perfect storm. You hit the mail on the head with a lot of your points but I want to add a major part in this equation: Kraft.

So many teams have been victims of ownership over and over again. Robert has been an amazing owner and has earned essentially the same status as Bill and crew. Top of the class. Best of all time. He is what all other owners should want to be. Yes, that includes getting hand jobs from 55 year old women apparently haha

I remember Warren Sapp sacking Favre and talking shit. Favre stood up and head butted him. I always liked Favre.
IIRC that was our all pro center Frank Winters that Sapp blind sided after the play knocking him unconscious and out of the game. It was a dirty dirty hit. Favre ran over to his aid and Sapp started the trash talk so Favre head butted his ass in retalliation haha

I mean Brady owns almost all the single player statistical records as well for a QB now too so

I mean Brady owns almost every BQ statistical record now at this point too so it's not really just about the 6 rings. Say what you want to about the time it took him to do it but part of being the GOAT is also about longevity, and he's done it better than anyone else, even longer than Farve at this point. And yes NE has had some great teams, but Brady has a bunch of nobody bums every year to throw to and he STILL puts up big numbers and makes them greater than they actually are. Wes Welker, Dion Branch come to mind here. Before and after NE they were total nobody's, Brady is who made them great. Even Welker was never the same player after NE, and he had Payton Manning throwing to him.

Sure Brady may not put up flashy numbers and highlights like Mahomes are Rodgers or Breese. But who is the most clutch player of a time? If you had ONE game, or ONE drive to win the big game who would you want at QB? The answer is pretty obvious and that alone makes him the GOAT even without all the other arguments. I mean come on... 6 super bowls on 6 game winning drives? I rest my case

I love your passion for new England and Brady. Preach on brother.

I'm a fan and will never surrender my love for this game and this team but I can see the other side here.

It's like talking emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders. Who was the best? This could be argued either way until all the oxygen is gone from a room.

I'm pro Brady, all day every day, but I do enjoy hearing all sides.

Thats a good comparison. Emmitt owns the records but it took him 18 yrs to top Barry and Barry only played 10.
Barry is GOAT i even have a signed Barry Sanders plaque in my garage and im not a lions fan. Never won a damn thing but he was the best to ever do it. And i think even Emmitt knows that if u asked him

That was my point, spot on. I loved them both. Dallas was my team when I was a kid, loved the Patriots but come on now haha. Had to have a team worth rooting for on Sundays!

Emmitt is regarded as the best ever but when you look at the big picture, there is solid ground to argue against it. It all depends on how you look at it.

Nah its pretty clear. Emmitt has the records which by definition makes him the best. But Barry retired unexpectedly in his prime. And anyone with a set of eye balls can see Barry was better. As in not even close. If he played 18 yrs like Emmitt that record would be in the stratosphere. He was the only man who had a shitty O line and the entire 11 man defensive roster would crowd the line of scrimmage and Barry would run for 200 yrds a game under these conditions.

Absolutely bro! As a life long New England fan I just feel like we are so blessed to live in the time that we do. We are watching history unfold every single week, there will never be another player like Tom Brady ever again, its a once in a lifetime kind of greatness and it's an honor to be a witness of his journey.

However as well as being a patriots fan I'm also just a fan of the game in general. Let me tell you I absolutely HATED Payton Manning, why? Because he was so unbelievably great that it made me sick to watch another QB who wasn't Tom Brady dominate the game like he did. But as much as I didn't like him from a competitive aspect, I would be just a hater to not recognize his once in a life time greatness as well. The NFL misses old school type players like him and Favre and I wish we could go back to a time. I think Brady is the last of that generation of player and when he's gone, the NFL really won't be the same. I really don't care for these new school players like Cam Newton or Rodgers who are so fucking cocky and arrogant that they get their coaches fired because they can't get along with them. To me the QB position is about leadership above all else. These new guys just care about their own personal statistics more than anything. Manning, Favre, or Brady wouldn't care if they only threw for 150 yards and no TD's (Brady last week) as long as they won the game because that's the only stat that they care about, wins.

Anyway rant over.

I wonder if u missed the game the week before last. NE was up big and Coach B took Brady out. He was furious. His backup went in and threw an INT. Brady was caught hysterically laughing at his teammate not doing well
Well there ya go

I did see that, didn't see any laughing though... Brady is the ultimate competitor, he wants to be playing all the time and even take all the reps in practice. To have that fire still at age 42 is a good thing not a bad thing
