What R U Eating ? ~OGH wants to know.....

Does anybody have any advice on preparing Ground Turkey? I have gallstones so I keep my diet lowfat so I don't wind up in the ER again.. Normally I'll mix up a 1:1 ratio of 97/3% Turkey and 93/7% ground beef (the beef really helps with the flavor and consistency). But I'm always looking for new ways and ideas to cook. Ground Turkey is basically the unbuttered and unsalted popcorn of the meat world so there's nowhere to go but up
I like to cook it with taco seasoning then add it to a bowl of broccoli and rice also cooked with taco seasoning..

I eat it pretty much everyday for lunch. Never gets old for me

Damn I forgot about that. I'm gonna have to make a meso cook book. Ha
Been done. One of the very first great MESO foodies made a MESO cook book. He hasnt been around in a while
Fella goes by sweabeanz. Or some iteration of that. (Sorry couldnt tag him properly)

Man, the entire reason I went vegan is because of the source of our food. Now I just want to get big. I’ll do poultry and fish. This salmon was caught right off of cape cod and this chicken is from an organic farm 10 minutes from my house. This I can do.

How do you make the salmon not taste too fishy?
Not really sure bro. The fisherman i buy this from bring this catch in daily, cleans the fish, puts it on ice and i have it that night or next morning. It’s never frozen like store bought. This fresh fish is never fishy probably because its only a day or 2 old where store bought is weeks due to being frozen multiple times and additives being added like dyes, pesticides and preservatives.

If you live near water, get in with the locals and buy local. Fuck that poison at the store (especially farmed fish, avoid at all costs)

^^thats the long explanation. In short i use this grilling rub in the picture above, hes a local guy from CT and i buy his rub from the farmers market. Throw that bitch on the grill and its to die for.

I’m just getting back into the meat thing so i’m Fine tuning. Its been years without this stuff

Gotcha. I was kinda hoping there was a simple explanation. Like maybe adding lemon juice or something acidic would kill that taste. There has to be a way to make store bought fish taste good without drowning it in butter.

Fish should never taste or smell “fishy” the solution is to find fresh wild caught fish. If you can’t, try using marinades or rubs.

Sometimes i’ll Put the fish on wax paper on a baking sheet and squeeze a couple lemons all over the salmon, really coat it in this saffron season, drench it in minced garlic, salt, pepper...that simple and no fishy taste.

No need for butter.

But check out some marinades at the grocery store that are low sugar. And try to buy wild.

Are you near an ocean by any chance?

Eat it fresh is the best advice really

I have to buy all my fish frozen from the store too and while I don't mind the fish taste I can say that seasoning it with the following spices make for a good plate.. I use Garlic powder, pepper, cayenne pepper and a little bit of oil before cooking it and after I get it on a plate, I use pink Himalayan salt (better mineral content vs iodized table salt) and put honey on top of it. The honey and cayenne compliment each other and that may help distract from any undesired flavors for you! Good luck!
