What type of person...

I didn't take it negatively. I know better, just hate when others are taken advantage of by people in "authority"!!

I never have profited in any way. If someone asks I will try to steer them in the direction where I know they have their best shot of getting getting what they are looking for.
I do it because if the situation were reversed I would appreciate it. I always explain that shit happens though.

I've never pm'd for either pushing a src or asking for one but I do feel guilty about almost jumping on a new one's "list of toys"! I was being eager and selfish. I'm glad I was made to wait as it let me realize that it's more important for the community as a whole to see where src's "stand".

Now that I've slowed down and thought things through...I'm glad I was made to wait.
As it helps the community as a whole. Which is way more important than what I want for my selfish ways. If you pm me with a src I will not use it! But if I pm you and ask lol...jk.

Unsolicited PM's to noobs with a source recommendation are not acceptable and are a violation of Meso's rules and a violation of every other board's rules. It's a violation of the rules for good reason - it's a tool used by scammers to avoid scrutiny. Any member that's been here for any length of time already knows it's not acceptable.

BigPaul told me early on, "nothing is for free here". It's as true then as is it is now. When I first joined Meso I noticed it commonplace for new sources to offer "vets" to try out their product and give reviews. I always found this to be an insult to my intelligence. In my head, i would think "Only a retard would send out something bunk to be tested, or what a shock a good review on free gear, i wonder how much extra they got for that after". Im not saying this is what happens all the time, but i wouldn't put much stock in your post after.
I'm not a vet, nor do i pretend to be. I give my opinion on topics i believe I know something about or have an opinion on. I'm not omniscient (65% of the time, I'm right everytime) nor do I sit on a moral high-horse. However, there are undoubtedly some who have laughed at my posts, had a question answered, or have answered mine. My familiarity here with those on Meso would put me in an oppurtunistic position to peddle my wares here and make a killing, while selling a part of my self. Have I made oils? Yes (not aas's of course). Did i consider how much I could make here on Meso? Crossed my mind. Did I act on it? No. I can tell you it's only because that's not me. I would gladly give someone here I trust something if they were in a bind, but I wouldn't take money for the raws (btw it's a very short list, that's not an invite for anyone i've spoken with to pm me). You can't be one of the guys and profit off them at the same time, conflict of interest. You're a source, you're one of the bad guys. You cross that line and there is no turning back. You have made that decision that you are here to make money. Previous altruistic intentions no longer matter. Same for reps. Sorry Tipdog, you escaped that debacle relativley unscathed and I think your a good guy, but if you remained longer there is no doubt you would have ended up like ALL the rest. The longer you have been here and the more people that listen to your insight with respect, the bigger the disappointment, when you slip to the other side. No matter what you tell yourself your intentions are.

atodd

Damn Todd, i thought i was a jaded bastard, but shit on a shingle. If it matters that whole thing with HTP didn't change my opinion on Tip at all. Hell he flaked before the dust had settled.

Alrighty... my better judgment is telling me to shower and give this one some thought under the warm water, gather my thoughts, and then come back and respond. But I suppose since this one has been a source of debate here in the past, I have already thought through most of it, anyways.

I guess I should preface my thoughts by saying that I believe that unsolicited offers to new members is absolute garbage. There is no good reason for any of us to be contacting new members and offering to "help" them, unless they have asked for help.

Now, regarding the offering of sources to members who are coming to you, there MUST BE FULL DISCLOSURE by the member recommending the sources in order for the member to have even a shred of respect by the community. If a member is making these recommendations under the pretense of doing so simply out of the kindness of their heart, while being comp'd to do so, that is beyond wrong. If something is being received in return, and this is not being disclosed, that's really shady.

If the member who has inspired this post is doing these things to/with new members only, and not other more established members, well, there is a reason why - and it doesn't look to be a good reason.

I take my responsibility as an established member here seriously, when it comes to recommending sources. I realize that my word carries a lot of weight with new members. I don't say this because I think i am a big shot, bc I am not. I say it based on how many members reach out to me for source recommendations.

Hopefully I have answered your question(s), Brut.

I will take another quick poll- should the member's name be dropped in this thread or should the member be pm'd to out himself publicly with whatever explanation he might have?

I believe in Millard's vision here for meso and where he is trying to go. In this I get no financial gain, no freebies..... never. I have been offered and told " I will take care of you " .....no way not even extras on my paid order. Nothing to compromise my word. I take things I do here pretty seriously and I look where I think meso can go and refuse to be bought because I believe in the vision in an unadulterated place where one can get info on who really is who. It is the only way for change.

Unsolicited PM's simple it's tar and feather when caught. Wonder why I have never received any?

When it comes to being asked by members I choose my words carefully. Why? because I have told people things seemed alright and that what I ran was good. Then we know what happens. So big rule just because a source was good once doesn't guarantee he will be twice. Any ways new guys who ask directly.....sorry I don't even answer. As far as older members we know each other and we know we are not vouching. We should know better about our intentions.

Tough one part of me says drag his out in Meso town square but I am a man of second chances so should one have the chance to openly admit ones mistake and hope for a forgiving forum.

Unsolicited pm's though I consider a big no here though and I just said tar and feathers.
