Well, well, well ... actually, when I was a little kid, my dad had one of those old school satellite dishes, and we got Canadian stations, including Stampede Wrestling out of Calgary!

Also, I use to read about Stu Hart and "the dungeon" and read stories about the guys who came out of there.

True story - one of my high school teachers was a HUGE fan of independent wrestling territories, and bc I had that old school dish, I could record Stampede, Championship Wrestling from Florida, Deep South, Mid South, World Class out of Texas, etc, etc. I would record those shows shows for my teacher, and he would make sure that I had a good grasp of what to study for on exams. And, NO, I never spent the night at his house! :eek::eek::eek:

But, yes, CDNGUY, I def know Stampede and the Hart Family and those tough ass rasslers Stu produced!

EDIT: On a side note, I also learned a whole lot about the opposite sex and how to maneuver my way around the female anatomy by watching the plethora of adult channels that could be found on that satellite dish! Peter North set the bar quite high!:p

Ok Bick you just officially became the coolest member on Meso. hahahah You knowing about the dungeon I gotta share a story. Growing up we had 5 brothers all really tough fuckers and all wrestled. A couple at the National level, anyway they were freaks. These guys did the same thing and had a professional ring in their basement as kids :eek: Let's just say no one wanted to do sleepovers at their crib unless you had balls lol

The stories of Stu - even as an 'older gentleman' - stretching guys out in the Dungeon are legendary, to say the least. He was one of those guys that you still wanted NO PART of, even into his late 60's! He was a one of a kind guy, cool story to check out for those that are not familiar.

I learned first hand 2 things in grade 8 when it came to size and guys who could really wrestle. Best street fight I've seen was one of those brothers. 5'7 180 with no neck and the silent type. The local BB roid monkey who did shows was 6'1 240 and had already graduated. He wanted a piece of this guy because he had a rep on the mats. The wrestler put on a clinic haha I shit you not suplexed this guy at least 5 times. :eek: Credit to the BB he didn't stop til he went to sleep lol Good old fashion scrappin :D

I got to meet the big show many years ago. Actually I should say I served him at a restaurant. My wife met the late Eddy Guerrero and Chris Benoit. She said Eddy was very enthusiastic about signing autographs. Benoit acted very nervous and in her description "he just waddled away as fast as he could, lol. Strange dude...

Then there's the moment you realize when you go to a live show some of these guys have deceptive stats. It's no secret. Mcmahon has been doing it for years. He loves the monster effect. The undertaker really is a big ass mofo and quite intimidating, brock Lesnar is really as big as you think he is, really.

I remember the hardy boys and Jericho were really small from the front row.

Interesting and true, Trukker, regarding the sizes of some of the guys. I remember as a kid seeing Andre the Giant as he walked by us, touching the fans hands as he went by, and that guy was enormous. The size of his hands, and fingers, and the size of his head, were insane.

About Eddy and Benoit, my experience with them is basically exactly as your wife explained. Benoit didn't seem like a bad guy, just very introverted and nervous around people, which is ironic given that he performed in front of large crowds. I saw him at an autograph signing, and he seemed uncomfortable, but trying to be cordial.

And Eddy? Well, sounds cheesy, but he was known as just being a sweetheart of a guy. Thousand watt smile, and genuinely appreciated every compliment and every thank you, especially from some autistic and mentally challenged fans that he went above and beyond to make happy.
 
I said it before. I met Show, Vince McMahon and a few others a few years back. Vince was tired as hell because while the others slept he was up all night working. But he was nice as anything. Very different from on screen and the stories you hear.

True Story.

My interest in weight lifting began after seeing the physiques of the professional wrestlers I watched as a kid. After seeing the Road Warriors in person, from about 5 feet away, I was hooked on the concept of lifting weights to get bigger!

There is no doubt in my mind that had I never watched wrestling, I never would have become obsessed with the iron.
 
My original dream was to become a wrestler but God decided to make me short (5'6) and put an end to that quickly :)

I still keep up to date with it all. Got a wwe network subscription and currently going through some 1993 stuff.
1993 was when all the steroid scandal stuff was around - Hogan and a bunch of the WWE guys dropped a tonne of weight off cycle, those who refused joined WCW or other companies (Hawk from the Road Warriors, Bulldog, etc). Plus Kerry Von Erich recently passed (the whole Von Erich story is a sad one for those old enough to remember any of it). Tough times.
 
You know who's a dirty mother fucker? Teddy Long! We were working a show outside of Atlanta, an outdoor one, and using a church as our dressing room, and this guy was going on about Pulling trains on Mat Rat's (groupies for wrestlers) and telling all sorts of nasty stories. Was hilarious and entertaining, but man, never heard a guy use such incessant foul language when on TV he appears all appropriate and shit. He really plays a character on TV lolol.
