@RYDER80 check out my thread in this section called bottle top filter set up

You'd use a bottle top filter into a media bottle, and put a septa cap on it, draw up the oil slide the tin foil off the vial, fill it, put a stopper in, move to the next. Then go back thru after with the caps and crimp them

Sorry guys - I know I'm posting alot today but my next brew I wont be using pre-sterilized vials. So, if I'm using open vials and stoppers:

After sterilizing the vials in the oven and wrapping in tinfoil, would I just filter via a syringe filter directly into the open vial through the tinfoil? Would it be possible that a piece of the tinfoil would end up in the vial? Or, would I take the foil off real quick even though it would expose the inside of the vial to air?

Once again sorry for sounding like such a noob, I just want to get this right. As previously stated, I've only ever used sterile vials with stoppers already in place.

Thanks,
R

I filtered straight through the foil before I went with bottle top filters.

You’re going to want to put those little foil squares on the vials before you bake them in the oven so you aren’t placing unsterile foil on your sterile vials.

Thanks bud! Real quick, what type of bottle tops do you use? I've heard whatman zapcaps are good. Have you ever used the Millipore stericup? Also, what pressure would you say is optimal with the hand pump as not to crack anything?

I saw people saying the Millipore ones Crack and leak

Thanks man - I really appreciate it. I think it might be time for me to use bottle tops. Which brand bottle tops do you use? I've heard like anything else some are better than others.

I got the whatman ZapCap ones. The interesting thing I found is that they aren't labeled as sterile but I was reassured by a couple guys on here that they're totally find because you're passing the oil through the filter into a sterile media bottle so there's no concern.

I grabbed a couple media bottles off Amazon and septa caps off ebay. The septa cap sort of turns it into a giant multi use vial

Nice! I was actually about to ask you what the septa's were for. So, you can actually put the septa on the media bottle and draw directly from it? Also, does the media bottle attach directly into the zapcap? Is there something else I need in order for it to attach?

Thank you so much!!

Just put the oil in the filter before you start pumping, otherwise it won't seal. It does not connect but the seal will be strong so you won't have to hold it or prop it up

I couldn't find that answer forever! It does seal straight to it just as @TideGear said

The septa is this little silicone disk that goes ontop of the bottle and then this cap with the center cut out goes on that. Think of how a Mason jar works

First. You use a glass media bottle. Those don't crack like plastic - all plastic ones crack don't use them (millipore filters are fine along with others). Once in place run 15psi.

I’ve been using a .22 Autofil with nylon membrane and polypropylene funnel. As @Monstar stated, use glass media jars because plastic ones crack. I use about 18-20 lbs vacuum to get a good flow through the filter

sorry, i am 12.

Looking to save some time if MCT flows faster than GSO.

LOL.

MCT will flow faster. That said lots of guys cycle 8-20 weeks. Even room temp thick ass oil can be done in a half day for 500ml (shit ton for personal use) and bottle top is mostly set and forget. What exactly is the rush so many people have on this?

I primarily like MCT for draw time from the vial so stoppers can be saved with a smaller gauge. Yeah you can inject it faster of course but too quick and I get pip. But as far as filtration goes using a bottle top doesn't matter. But a syringe filter.... Fuck that. Lol. I'd for sure rather have MCT in that scenario.

LOL I forgot about syringe filters.
