Dogs

@Skinny
Thanks, Yeah I lost our last dog that way I think it worse because of the sudden shock and heartbreak. At least we have some time to process and make the best of the time he has left.

Ok, so I've had this old mattress in the spare room for quite some time.
I finally decided to make a trip to the landfill so I drug it out to the living room so I could load it into my truck in the morning.
Shortly after that I was called into work for an emergency.

Long story short, don't leave a boxer dog alone with something new in the living room because he will think it is there for him to play with.
This is what I came home to...

He chewed a hole in it and climbed inside and was stuck in there when I got home. I could hear him barking before I got to the door.
This is a 78lbs dog STUCK in a mattress!
It took everything I had to stop laughing so I could get the pic before he lost his mind. The look on his face was well worth the mess I had to clean up.

this thread choked me up a bit. I lost my baby girl in june.she was a beautiful rednose pitbull. .... I did everything with her for 5 years. no matter where I went she had shotgun. but one night she didn't come home. next morning I get a ring, she was hit by a car ..... ive losts pets before when I was younger but this hurt more... rip baby

It does seem to get harder as I get older.

I had this golden lab mane stormy I lost to getting hit by a car... I will never forget that day, I was 15 at the time, living with my mom in the city, I went to the mall with a bottle of whiskey to drink with my girl at that time, I specifically told my older sister to not let him out side unless he was on a leash, cause he only listen to me when he was off leash, well she ignored me and he ran a crossed the road after a cat and got hit by this lady speeding down a residential street... I got a call, while I was tucked away with my girl getting down and sippin back on the bottle, from my sister scream and crying while she said stormy got hit, they came and got me.. when i first got there i yelled his name, and saw his tail start to wag and I ran up to him laying there with his chest caved in blood coming out if his mouth, eyes, and ass... I sat right next to him, picked his head up and laid it on my lap, and kept telling him how much I love him and he is a good boy, he kept wagging his tail, licked my arm, than whimpered and took his last breath... God dam I love that do he was my best friend, it was like he waited and suffered just to see me before he died.. I still have his ashes in my room, with a picture of me and him and my cousin, and sis my my car I used to go joy riding in... I was so fucking pissed off at that lady I almost killed her that day, I kept breaking my hands in the concrete just to eas the pain and so I did break that cunts neck, I told her to get out of here and she ran back to her car and took off... It still gets to me to this day... Rip storm...

Thanks, it's tough loosing a your best friend, than on top if it being cut short.. I also still have his Jain collar on his box... It helps keeping those things around for me, something to look at and smile while I think of all the good times we shared...

It is awesome watching him play with the kids and even the baby, he is so gentle, he has raised three kittens, two ducks and been been around before we had our first child... I taught him the difference in the levels of strength/hyperness he can use depending on, man, female adults, children, and baby's... Little animals, like kittens, baby ducks, and small dogs... He plays different with each one it's funny.. Me and him play rough, him and my wife play, but all she has to do is say ouch, and he will drop to the ground, my kids baby's and small animals, he just rolls around and let's them do what ever they want, with no care in the world...

You left out the important part.....

Are you gonna hold his hand when they put him down....?!?

Cause I have a golden lab who is getting old. She is near, and near within 2 years tops. IT WILL BE THE HARDEST LOSS I EVER SUSTAIN.....!!!

And I have thought about this. What kind of a COWARD will I BE?!!??? My mom used to have em put down. I swear SHE is the TERMINATOR (anyone making some estrogen equations about now:D).. But where she gathered the strength I guess could have only come from ME... And that they meant nothing to her other than the fact that she wanted me to be happy and have love with them. Now that I am a parent - I Can understand the REASON for the emotional detachment. You have to CHOOSE and PROTECT what is most important, and take a ONE POSITION LINE ONLY for focus... (now thats and interesting e vs. t conundrum.!!)

SO- Can I go in there with my girl and hold her paw while she departs this earth.?!?! Or will I be a GUTLESS VAGABOND and just drop her at the door like most can muster at best..? My eyes tear as I type, and I really dont even know the answer yet. Will I BE AFRAID??? WHAT AM I SCARED OF?? The vet SEEING me cry.? The STRESS I will CAUSE HIM by being the FIRST PERSON in history to do this>>>????!!!! ... Or the FEAR of the unknown.....?

Either way - I dont have the answer yet. I put a lot on the line. Love her and she would die for me UNQUESTIONED>..!

Choose how WE LIVE our lives WISELY.. We have but ONC CHANCE... That we KNOW OF...:)

I just found out last week that Spot my best friend for over 10 years is dying.
I knew something was wrong when i found him sleeping in the corner of the laundry room. He was lethargic not his normal energetic happy self. Vet says his heart is going and has fluid building up around it and liver shows signs of stress, possible bleeding tumors as he is also anemic.

It is nice to be able to have time to say my goodbyes and allow my son to adjust to the idea of life without a friend he has always known his blood brother in fact.

Funny story.
My son was born a home so we saved his placenta to plant under an Oak tree. Well we were busy and put it in the freeze till we were ready. Mom comes over to help wife as she recovered and though she would take a Roast out of the freezer and defrost it for dinner. You guessed it she grabbed the placenta and I guess Spot just couldn't resist the smell of that big ball of flesh defrosting on the counter. We were at the neighbors and see Spot frolicking around the yard slinging this bloody mass up in the air and catching it, shaking blood everywhere.
My wife was mortified and I still laugh when I think about it.

Just wanted to send shot out for THE BEST DOG EVER....SPOT

Thats a unique story. A lab getting hit by a car.. Lol. And I FEEL YA.. I was fifteen. The funny thing was the fence was about 1 week from completion. I dont know WHY it is that Labs think MOVING HUBCAPS are FRISBEE's...!?!?!?!!!! I walked out the moment I noticed she was out, and saw the ASSHOLE OLD MAN ROARING down the street to hit her, catch her under his front wheel locking up his brakes. Skidding 100 feet, and then bumping over her. He dragged her the whole way under his front left tire... For all he knew it was a kid... SHe got up and ran around for a few and ran to me falling down. I looked over and saw him stopped looking at me holding her. He drove off. I looked back at her and realized the run around was a fake and SHE WAS GOING... I was 15. I hugged her and screamed and yelled trying to bring LIFE BACK to her. I even attempted CPR on her for a few minutes and my mom drove up and we got in the back and went to the vet. I knew all along she was gone. She choked to death on the blood that BREATHS MORTALITY into the MORTAL. there was nothing I could do.. Other than be a MORE responsible person and have watched her more closely. My mom told me the old woman across the street whos yard we were in was watching. She never came out. So what did she know ALREADY. What is all this about..?! I was 15...:('

The funny part was that I met his daughter about my age a few years back when attempting to sell my house as she was a local would-be realtor. I told her the story. She told me what an animal lover her dad was and how that NEVER could have happened. I described everything to her including the truck he drove for those years. I knew then that he died that day too and just never knew it. I know it hurt her. She offered me a deal to sell my house for 3% and to stage it too. I heard she put some flowers on the kitchen counter after it never sold. This was not somnolence or acknowledgement/regret. This was her IDEA of STAGING.. Enough said... WE ARE WHO WE ARE...

AND I AM NOT LAUGHING. I just SWEAR if a dog is going to get hit, one that is cared for, ITS A FUCKING LAB...!

Oh man I have seen few labs on the side of the road, they get set in something and won't stop, also they love to chew up everything you own... Lol that dog was such a good listening dog, but only with me, I could walk any where with him off leash, he would be hugged to my legs, not going to far back, nor to far ahead of me...

My son is 6. He cries like he's on clomid when he sees those ASPCA, or whatever commercials, with the dogs all sick and caged up. I half feel bad, and half want to tell him to toughen the F up :D

The other night the blue lights were stopped in front of my house. He goes to the window, peeks out to see whats' going on, and starts screaming bloody murder. I look out the window, and see the cops with their flashlights on some poor dog that got creamed.

I swear I feel worse when animals get hurt then people.

Ive had good dogs, even one that was really special.
I take excellent care of any animals that are ever on my farm.
Wormed, vaccinated, fed well, and attended to.
Thats a part of taking responsibility.
But they are just about disposable too me.
I care more for humans, whether its deserved or not.
Maybe its a Southern thing, or rural upbringing, their just
a fkn dog.
Its sad to me when I see humans putting so much of their
feelings into a animal. Their contact is a pathetic replacement
to real family and friends.
Its just lived different in these parts. Maybe where people are
stacked on top of each other its lived this way.
