Marijuana [Cannabis]

My state (CT) is debating whether to go full legalization of weed, and I'd love to see that happen. Once there's a lot of states considering legalizing weed, then a tipping point will be reached where the feds will have to consider going that route as well. If the old farts that we elect to office can be convinced legalization is in the best interest of the country they they should vote for it. We all will win when this happens!
I mostly agree, but will revise to say that it will likely be easier to convince the politicians that it is the best interest of their political lives to vote for marijuana legalization.

That's going to be easier said than done though.

Marijuana has saved so many economies. Vermont is the next that is going to do everything they can to legalize. I am a huge advocate and have carried a medical card for many years. They have said that it will enhance their economy up to 80 million which I think is a lowball figure. There are far too many economies needing stimulation and I believe you will see more and more progress each and every year until it is legalized nationwide and it absolutely should be.

Yes its a matter of time before weed goes fully legal (albeit regulated and taxed). The tax money will definitely be a help for those cash-strapped states and I feel this windfall should be prudently spent.

I absolutely agree man. It is just a matter of getting the right people in office and someone with half of a brain to make it happen. Easier said then done though!

Exactly, but it will take a lot of time and work to get the right people in office, including a like-minded president. With more states considering legalization there will be more pressure placed on the feds to act. The states are taking the lead on this and that's a heartening sign.

Well said man. You and I could probably talk about this for days! I love talking about this with like minded people man.

Yea I was a big user back in my college days and while I don't smoke it regularly nowadays, I just bought a vape but kept it hidden from my family. I'll be vaping soon enough :)

Actually I did smoke it some after suffering serious head and internal injuries in a fall, just to ease the pain.

Hypothalamic pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) neurons promote satiety. Cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1R) is critical for the central regulation of food intake. Here we test whether CB1R-controlled feeding in sated mice is paralleled by decreased activity of POMC neurons. We show that chemical promotion of CB1R activity increases feeding, and notably, CB1R activation also promotes neuronal activity of POMC cells. This paradoxical increase in POMC activity was crucial for CB1R-induced feeding, because designer-receptors-exclusively-activated-by-designer-drugs (DREADD)-mediated inhibition of POMC neurons diminishes, whereas DREADD-mediated activation of POMC neurons enhances CB1R-driven feeding. The Pomc gene encodes both the anorexigenic peptide [agr]-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, and the opioid peptide [bgr]-endorphin. CB1R activation selectively increases [bgr]-endorphin but not [agr]-melanocyte-stimulating hormone release in the hypothalamus, and systemic or hypothalamic administration of the opioid receptor antagonist naloxone blocks acute CB1R-induced feeding. These processes involve mitochondrial adaptations that, when blocked, abolish CB1R-induced cellular responses and feeding. Together, these results uncover a previously unsuspected role of POMC neurons in the promotion of feeding by cannabinoids.

Cannabinoid Regulation of Feeding Circuits.

a, The conventional view of appetite circuits in the brain's hypothalamus involves Agouti-related protein (AgRP) neurons, which stimulate feeding, and pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) neurons, which inhibit it. Both groups affect downstream neurons expressing melanocortin 4 receptors (MC4Rs). Koch et al.1 propose an alternative mechanism, in which cannabinoids stimulate food intake by causing a subset of POMC neurons to specifically activate β-endorphin-releasing boutons (release sites, not shown), which target downstream neurons expressing μ-opioid receptors.

b, The authors suggest that, by activating cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1R) at two sites, cannabinoids increase feeding behaviour. At one site, they could inhibit release of the neurotransmitter GABA from AgRP neurons onto POMC neurons, thereby enhancing the latter neurons' excitability. At the other site, CB1R activation in mitochondria could increase respiration, production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and expression of mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2), which then acts as a switch to cause β-endorphin release selectively onto downstream neurons.

I smoke a L everyday after working out to calm down or help me to fall asleep after I'm all ramped up from the preworkout and my cardio has not been affected... also I try not to eat beforehand just so my diet doesn't go to shit...
