Meso Powerlifting Corner

I'd reccomend the full boar mark bell slingshot as even his others don't have the tapered arms and it's impossible to get any other one that's "suppose to fit" past your bicep peak. Ya my shitty knee wraps added about 20 pounds but now that I have some top notch ones I'm thinking I can overload with around 30 pounds for a double.

Slingshot is a great purchase when your bench starts to fall behind a bit as it builds your tris up and it's so easy to hold perfect form with it.

I like the idea of reverse bands more then regular as they don't pull you off balance as much and you can feel what the weight actually is at the top

Not every lift responds well to reverse bands. Reverse band Dead lift for example has been noted quite a few times as not transferring over to your dead lift except in a few cases. Also the speed benefits won't be seen like if you do band the regular way.

When I've used bands I've always looked forward to that off balance force. It made me work harder to stay in position. That helped during me at my meet as my coach said I didn't have as much form breakdown he was expecting on 3rd attempts.

Jay thanks for starting this thread. If it wasn't for this I wouldn't have started the 531. I did just start but so far I love it. I'm obsessed with trying to beat my numbers for the next time. I don't know if it's a cns thing but after the 531 the accessories feel light as hell. I think it just makes you strong all around. I never watch power lifter before now.

Dont thank me. Its all on all the people in here. They got me started, I just wanted to give them an outlet to get out their knowledge.

But im glad youre digging the program. Keep everyone updated on your progress

So as y'all know I started westside barbell this week. Its crazy that im great at the main lifts but struggling with all the accessories. Yesterday I sucked at hamstring curls and today I sucked at skullcrushers. I did a 365lb bench and struggled at 80lbs on skullcrushers. :(
These kinda programs make you humble brother. Don't think of struggling with 80 as a negative but a positive that your earlier work took you so close to the brink of death[emoji41]. Last week on my volume bench day I upped it more then I should have( debate able) I made all my reps but at the end of w/o I could barely do 3 dips at bw. This week I was back to cranking sets of 12 and 15.

I think that's the one I've had my eye on, I know there's 3-4 different ones for different strength levels. I've used the reactive one a couple times and I used another brand slingshot once called a Ram.

I tried doing reverse band bench at my gym a couple months ago with their green bands, but they're something like 70+ pounds per band. It was so light at the bottom it wasn't worth doing.

There's a theory that working up to a fairly heavy single after warming up, not a max, but something like 90% if I remember correctly and then doing your regular sets (like 5x5 or whatever) will make them seem easier and move faster because your CNS is primed for the heavier weight.

I can't remember where I read that, seems like it might have been the RTS forums, but I'm not sure.

It sure seems like you're stronger after working up and doing drop sets. Until you're gassed of course.

@jaymaximus I love doing reverse bands for overloading, but like @Docd187123 said, deadlift doesn't always transfer over well. Great for getting your hands used to more weight though!

Funny story about reverse band deadlifts- I was doing them in the power rack at my gym with 500, just put the bar down and the owner walks up to me. He says, you know, you're probably one of the strongest guys here, but you need to deadlift in the deadlifting area (has more padding on the floor) so you don't break the floor. I told him I normally do, but that I'm using the reverse bands for overloading the top (had them set so all the weight was at the knees instead of the top). Guy seemed to have no idea what I was talking about. At least he was civil about it though.

I still have a set of bands from liftinglarge I haven't used yet- I have the red and the blue and the grey ones are just so crazy thick I never opened them!

I have a grey 200lb rogue fitness band I use for inversion and a pair of green ones I've used for DE days

I can say from personal experience that this does seem to work. I prefer to work up to ~85% but same concept.

Edit: i wouldn't recommend doing it if your workout is going to be very high volume though.

Yeah, somewhere around 85% or 90%. Heavy, but not really taxing. I've only toyed with it briefly when I was between programs.

I agree on the high volume, too.

Ya i tried the ram and the reactive slingshot doesnt really do much for me maybe adds about 10 pounds or 2 extra reps. the full boar one is yellow and for where you are at would be perfect as the next step up is the madd dog and thats for benchers pushing 500+.

ive got a full set of bands that i got from northern lights for dirt cheap think i paid 40 bucks for 12 bands or something but i only use 2 of them for stretching and thats it lol.

Ya @ruckin i use 85% of my overload training capacity with the slingshot on bench then when i go to a volume set of 225 i can usually crank out 3-6 more reps then i normally can but i defiantly think 85% is my butter zone when lifting heavy and not over taxing the CNS as i did 95% deadlifts yesterday and im not getting outa bed today lol.

Last two weekends in a row I felt like death after my heavy deadlift sessions.

Oh figured I'd drop this here as I did state I'm a gear guy in my first post here.
This is everything I have in my large duffle bag for the gym:
image.jpeg
I have some more gear like my extra 8 other bands some yoga mats and stretching bands and ab rollers and that stuff but this I my erryday gear I have with me.

On a side not I get an anxiety attack whenever my girl moves my bag as this is basically my whole world right here.

Because you can't tell what the shoes are from left to right: Nike free run 5.0, reebok cross fit nano 4.0, converse chuck Taylor's, sabo deadlift shoe, Nike romealos 2.0 and beside my SBD elbow sleeves those are deadlift slippers. Any questions on any of the gear and I'd be happy to fill them.

Best items in my personal opinion to have would be the Nike romealos 2 the SBD knee sleeves and fullboar slingshot.

I'm at work and don't have a picture of my gear handy, but mine doesn't hold a candle to yours. No microplates though?

Micro plates at the gym! They do a lot of Olympic lifting at my gym so lucked out there. Still lots I want to purchase for personal equipment I.e power rack but as for gear I'm pretty much topped out now and my bag is full soooo ya can't even fit anything else once I've put my 3 water bottles in

I never thought to use them for that! An inversion table is outside my budget at the moment but those grey bands will do the trick. I tweaked an old back injury Monday and am trying to rehab it. Thanks for the idea!
