Meso Powerlifting Corner

My lifts are way better when I've been doing. Cardio. I've always been lean no matter how I train. I haven't done any BBing workouts the past few weeks. Still got some abs and lean

I do cardio year round. Seems like the way to go, especially for gear users.

I don't think you'll lose any of your physique doing strictly PL. Your lifts will go up though.

This 5 day a week program is too much by its self. I'm gonna make changes next week. I have 5 day of heavy bench now. I'm dropping Tuesday bench all together and substituting another day for a 3 sets of 8 on incline around 8RPE. My shoulders and elbows are killing me

I've been saying it a long time, four days is perfect for powerlifting. I'll be back on deadlift Tuesday after three weeks off, I think we're all pretty well back in the game at least.

Unless I'm a contracted athlete where some body is paying me to put my body thru endless miles on a treadmill or worse pavement or a damn cycling bike I won't be doing any cardio. It doesn't interest me. I don't enjoy it. There are tons of ways to skin a cat. I have a stacked workout regimen everyday. If I wanna get it done and be to work on time. My ass needs to move. Sorry PL's those 7.5 minutes in between sets isn't necessary. It's lazy. I'm working with 85% of my 1rpm and I can move between sets fairly quickly. I sweat an obscene amount and my heart rate is high. I cut 30 lbs off cycle with this method and reduced calories. There is more than 1 way to skin a cat.

My cardio days are over. Between daily PT required by uncle Sam and all my past athletic pursuits I think I'm as healthy or healthier than I was in those days. I'm just 80 lb heavier:p. No more terrible knees from humping mile after mile or running suicides till I puke. These days it's about adding as much red muscle as possible and moving iron faster and heavier than I did the week before. This is my brand. A different kind of shape

I keep my blood flowing with my job and then my training varies with which ever program im doing

Powerlifters who train for 1 rep PR's in comps need to train with that extra rest between sets to maximise there recovery converting to more power/energy for next set. Theres defiantly a method to the madness. I wouldnt say its lazy tho. I personally get bored resting more than 2mins but if i was training for a power comp i would train that way

And yes fuck running lol

You know I never did either. I'm strictly PL in terms of training, my diet is what determines how lean I am.
Absolutely.
My base is PL. It's how I got my start. Strength athletes have an immense density to their structure that carries over nicely to BB routines. When a PL learns to train with hypertrophy in mind they are typically far better suited than the guy who iso's everything and doesnt have a strength base under their feet. Gotta have both

I agree. The iso guys, even when they're big, tend to have a softer look about them. Guys that cross over look big and strong.

I got a little taste of strongman work a few months ago and I found it really enjoyable. Just can't fit it in right now with meet prep. I'm planning on incorporating it at some point down the road though. Much more enjoyable cardio and it gets you strong, too.

Go for it! Strongman work is low back intensive work. Some thing I won't be able to measure up to. I'm just trying to mitigate my pain and hopefully have a productive life in my later years. Deadlifts and such are not part of the picture. I believe strongman is just about the perfect fit for some one like myself. Too bad. Do it while you can!
