Meso Powerlifting Corner

Go for it! Strongman work is low back intensive work. Some thing I won't be able to measure up to. I'm just trying to mitigate my pain and hopefully have a productive life in my later years. Deadlifts and such are not part of the picture. I believe strongman is just about the perfect fit for some one like myself. Too bad. Do it while you can!

Definitely would be for your size. I'm average height and smaller boned myself. I enjoy the training though and it'd be a nice supplement to what I do in the off season. Deadlift is my specialty, the overhead pressing is where I'd struggle.

Deadlifting was my specialty too brother! Used to live for it. I've told this story before and I'll tell it again. The first time I ever pulled I pulled 405! I was young and strong and stupid with no one to teach me. Didn't take long I injured myself for the first time in a major way. Then again and again. Enuff is enuff. Stay healthy. Nothing else matters

I was 28-29 before I ever did a deadlift. I was more a bench bro in my younger days. One benefit is I've got less wear and tear than those that have been doing it since they were young.

I wish I had spent more time PLing when I was younger . I was hooked on "Dips" and pumping up my triceps more than anything . That and a big bench press was all I cared about ... now Im playing catch-up in PLing but I still put up a respectable squat at 56...

You can still build your legs late in life. Just dont give up or give in ;)

Like I said less wear and tear. Most guys your age that were into PL probably don't squat or deadlift much anymore. You still thinking about going for some state records?

Im with truk on the cardio. I just lift weights faster. I've moved away from strictly powerlifting more and more recently. I stay moving the whole time I'm in the gym, sweating like a hooker in church and elevated heart rate. I still lift heavy af but I don't stress adding 10-15 lbs to a lift as much anymore. I'm getting stronger and looking better than ever and most importantly I feel damn good day to day. No injuries in a long time, knock on wood.

I just did a 250x10x10 back squat just now , not too far from my PR 300x10x10 squat.
Nothing like 10x10"s to put everything in perspective....

I'm not ready for 10x10 yet. Sounds like a near death experience.

Ive just started getting into Sumo wide leg squats alot and with my short build I can really come out of the hole better. Ive also been throwing in front squats , just 3 sets and only 255lbs . Just for Trukker and Weighted Chinup ,lol. Still awkward .

I'm doing medium wide, like wider than shoulder width, but not like to the edge of the cage. My hips are pretty limber surprisingly and I don't have trouble hitting depth wide.

Finishing heavy 10x10"s is like mountain climbing . Feels good to finish it and you wont forget it very soon....lol

I want to try the 10x10 gvt at some point. Likely when I start dabbling into higher doses. It was created for olympic weightlifters so there must be something to it.

Start light and work up in weight . I always start a week or two before with 135x10x10 then add 70lbs every workout until I scream in pain . Then you've arrived . Dont plan anything the next day that involves walking...

God, that is brutal. I don't usually go above like 8 reps for squats lol.
I'd really like to start doing some strong man stuff. I started with farmers walks and my gym has a log bar I might start using.

"If it was legal" I might try bulking on a gram of test cyp this coming winter and try gvt to see how I like it. I'd probably start with around 250 on squats and go from there.

When I did GVT last year I was running 750mg/wk test-c only and it was great . Big size increase...

I suggest a mild oral to kick it for 4 weeks, starts the strength early instead of waiting 6 weeks for the test-c to finally hit . You"ll really see gainz if your food is on...

Yeah brother if I'm gonna use a big dose like that I'm not gonna fuck around with food lol. I'll be eating everything in sight. And I love dbol so 4 weeks with some of that to start sounds awesome.

Jesus @Oregongearhead 10x10. I'd be crippled.

@gr8whitetrukker I know where you're coming from about the term 'powerbuilder', but I still think it sums up the type of training / mindset quite well... even if it sounds kinda foolish.

Anyhow, worked up to 5 plates today. Only my second attempt ever. My last PR was 475. Last time I attempted 5, I didn't get past my shins. This time I couldn't lockout. I was given the advice to go more narrow in stance and grip... Can any of you fine gentleman see any other flaws??
