Meso Powerlifting Corner

I saw that post today... I want to try it tomorrow at gym. I honestly wouldn't have thought it would be that hard but that dude made it look kinda hard and he's been doing some impressive grip work lately.

Have you tried it with just one 45? It's not easy. Or the flip and catch? I can only catch a 25lb bumper.

Yeah I've done it with one before, just messing around when loading a bar... That's what surprised me a little that two would be that much harder but I can see it.

And.. Fuck no... I'm not doing a flip and catch. I broke a toe once, I'm not doing it again!

You may surprise me, but expect to get humbled. I thought that Thor's hammer challenge where you pick up a barbell from one end would be easy and I couldn't do it at all.

I've never tried that... It looks too awkward to be fun. Did you put weight on it?

I was off last week so I'll be kinda fresh tomorrow... I really feel like I could at least break the floor with 90 but, again, that dude does a ton of grip work and is making it look hard so I have no idea why I think that.

The extent of my grip work is double overhand deads and avoiding straps unless I don't feel like tearing my hands open... That dude was doing +500lbs double over for reps the other day.

No, I just tried to pick up an empty barbell on the Thor thing. Probably could do it with a little practice.

I can pinch a 45lb plate, but couldn't do a 55lb bumper at my old gym. Couldn't begin to do two 45's.

I'm not sure what my max double overhand is. I used to throw them in, but haven't in years.

You ever watch this guy's videos?

I pinched a 45lb bumper about a week ago but I have no idea if that would be easier or harder than an iron plate... It was one of the thick bumpers, maybe a little less than the width of 3 iron plates. I actually walked a little ways with one in each hand to show off. :)

I just do double overhands when warming up before I go to mix... Not really to train grip so much. I usually go to mix at 315 but I stuck with overhand the same day I pinched the 45's... I remember feeling good about doing easy overhand reps with 315 but I think I switched to mix when I moved up to 405. It occurs to me now I was doing that because I saw the guy you posted doing overhands and wanted to try it.

I've never seen that guy.. made my toes curl when he swung it.

This dude is pretty cool.. I was watching his stuff earlier. Actual grip champion, I didn't even realize it was a thing:

I've tried those too. Can't even do one plate.

But if it has the lip that makes it easier?
I can see putting 2- 25 iron plates with the flat side out, but if it has the lip like 45 iton plates have that woukd be easier.

putting the 45 plates together outside flat seems hard.

going to try this too, i never use straps when DL or exercising. Will try all methods. And see how it goes tomorrrow.

You aren't supposed to grip by the lip, that would be easy. You're supposed to hold with just the strength of fingertips and thumb against the flat sides of a plate. It's not easy even with just a 45.

Damn..... you guys on your own, at least for now.

Tried 45lb steel plate and couldn't hang on to it for any time. Tried 45lb rubber coated and pretty much same result. Tried 25lb rubber coated and can get about 22 seconds so have some work to do

Changing topic a bit... has anyone been following Ben Pollack lately? How the hell did he go from 238-260 in 4 months, and stay fucking ripped? That’s a hell of a cycle.
